Ms. Coconut arrived at about 7:30 this morning. She was just over 10# which is pretty big for an Icelandic sheep. First she presented with only one leg forward, but I got the other leg out pretty easily. However, then her enormous head got very well stuck. Mom was pushing for almost an hour and we were trying everything to help. We wound up calling the vet because we were afraid we might loose mom and baby. Meanwhile, we cracked open the sheep book and looked up what to do. Wound up looping a piece of baling twine behind the head and yanking the lamb out. I was sure the lamb was dead, but was happy that mom was going to be o.k. But then she started to breath and reasonably quickly got up to speed. Whew! The Vet finally showed up an confirmed that we had done everything that needed to be done. He did a quick check of mom and baby and pronounced them perfectly fine. He will be brown and white once he gets clean and dry.
So far we've gotten 2 ewe lambs (female) including this one and one ram lamb (male). We lost one ewe lamb and one ram lamb. One more pregnant ewe to go yet.
