I suspect it’s turned into a colloid… like when you mix oil and eggs together to make mayonnaise. yeah I’m definitely not out cutting in these temps if I can help it.
Just a positive report for Husky's winter grade... It eagerly poured from a sub 20° bottle yesterday. Like regular oil in summer. I still warmed the saw fairly well before use. It's colder today and I didn't cut, but would expect it to still flow well even 10 degrees cooler.
Saw an ad for this… although I’m absolutely thrilled with the name, at that price I’ll just keep my money.
This is borderline 'snake oil' here. Come to think of it, I'd run a bar oil called Snake Oil, probably. lol
Just got a whiff of what they pay for bar oil Down Unda. Sheesh. $40+ per gallon. As the prices rise, reasons that "bar oil" is 'unecessary' or a 'gimmick' begin to pile up. Most jumping ship for Canola. I wouldn't want to pay $40 per gallon either. I believe when faced with that prospect that I would try to arrange a Group Buy with like minded individuals and contact a couple manufacturers to inquire about minimum purchase amounts. A couple pallets of bar oil is a lot...unless you have 25 people splitting it up. I believe manufacturers will continue to ask 100% more for their product whether it is 100% more effective or not. Eventually, they will just forego bar oil sales all together. Makita has already bailed from supplying bar oil (except tiny bottles) even though they are still building battery chainsaws like they are going out of style. If they can't enjoy a fat margin, they will just stop offering it. I have mostly always used 'OEM' oil and have been pleased. Like many, as prices increase I have been using other brands. I still have a few Makita bottles and a couple Husky as well. Say you work for Sthil/Husqvarna and you are in charge of setting the sell price for bar oil...At what point does the phrase 'no one is going to pay this much' for a gallon of bar oil come into play? I have difficulty thinking that Stihl and Husky cannot sell a bottle for $10 and still make money. Compared to Harvest or whatever brand x...how much larger is their volume/buying power? Sorry, had been reading some stuff and had some thoughts. Carry on.
Yup, that would probably be first choice...I find it hard to believe that some AW hydro oil wouldn't do a pretty good job...
I got to use Amsoil's B&C oil this past weekend in single digit temps and I like it. It is not as thick as the older TSC stuff in cold weather but it is tacky AF. Temp doesn't seem to affect the viscosity as much as it does the older TSC stuff. That TSC stuff got be like molasses trying to pour it out of the jug when it got cold. I sent 2 gallons of Mystic home with my nephew for him and his dad to use. I'll keep some of it here for him to use in his saw when he helps me cut again.
Good to hear, but I'll take your word for it. I don't even like to cut in 50° temps, so no way are the saws being started in 90°, unless one falls on the house and I have no choice.
We must be getting the "New Englander discount" When I stopped at my local TSC last week it was that price. I almost bought a gallon anyway, but I still have a couple gallons left myself. If it drops some, or if I find some cheaper elsewhere, I'll get more.
