Took the wife camping this weekend for our 17th anniversary. Went to an area I have spent much in my younger years. We hiked into several waterfalls and such,drove about 150 miles on woods roads and looked at a lot of property for sale. Best thing we did was to go to the Maine logging museum in Rangeley. It wasn't much, lots of old saws and hand tools. A replica woods camp and cook shack. Lots of pictures and some load receipt books from a mill. Best thing she found was some photos and a painting and childhood story from a lady from her hometown. Corrine is now in her 90s and a good family friend from a very small town. As my wife was looking through this display and talking with the people who run the place about how she knew Corrine a photo of her dad working back in the mid 50s came out. After losing her dad 6 weeks ago tears came out. I was explaining the circumstances and the guy that owns the museum seemed to know a lot. So happens they worked together on a couple jobs way back in the day. To make a long story short my wife that in no way wanted to stop at this stupid logging museum came out and thanked me for making her go in. Best gift I could have given or gotten. She actually wants to go back just to say thanks to the owner. To relate to firewood she went to get our daughter today at her mothers and arranged for someone to bring me a load of wood down that I cut last fall. I'll put a picture on when it gets here.
Stinny we live between Bangor and Newport and stayed on Flagstaff lake so we went through Madison to Kingfield and on to Eustis. Never went down rt 4. We went into Rangeley and down 16 cut over through Andover and over to 27 and down to Rumford took 16 back to Rangeley. Went to the Cataracts and Dunns falls and stopped in Grafton state park to check out stuff there. We talked about going to Smalls but not enough time. Are you in that area or south of there?
Small world... we used to live in Carmel. Our old farm is 1/2 hour south of Rangeley. We've been to Smalls Falls many times. Worth the stop.
Small world alright. My mothers family has been in Hermon since early 1800s. I was born in Caribou but mom wanted to be back with her family when I was 3. I grew up there and moved after high school but for some reason I let my wife talk me into going back in the late 90s.
We were there 78-94. At 42, you were about 5 years ahead of our daughter at Hermon HS. Ever get up to the county these days?
Wife is from Sherman so we spend quite a bit of time in that area. Her family owns a lot of property around the area so that's where I cut. Go every year to Oxbow hunting. Most of my family there has moved away. Have a few friends around Caribou I go see once in a while. I didn't know many younger people from Carmel but I have some cousins around that age that also went to Hermon.
All this talk about Caribou is getting me excited for snowmobile season. And corn chowder at Frederick's Restaurant

Another winter like last year they will shut down the riding in the county. I went up in late February and looked at bare ground. Had about 5 feet on my lawn at home.
