So far, I've been a good healer. I had my same foot and ankle operated on about 2.5 yr ago. and it healed very well. So far, pain management has been very challenging, but I think I'm out of the woods on that front. Just time to let all the bone work and grafting stitch back together Can't rush that.
mike bayerl nice to have a friend for comfort. They really know when you are in pain and out of sorts.
Brief update: Pain well controlled on plain old Tylenol only. I got bundled up and used the electric scooter to join wife and dogs on a walk this morning. That was great boost to my spirits. Looking forward to a quiet and peaceful Christmas weekend.
Incisions healed up nice. Hope the inside is doing the same. How soon before you can put full weight on it?
Hopefully, I can put weight on it with a boot after 6 weeks and then ditch the boot at 12 weeks. Hoping to get some firewood time in late Winter and Spring this year if all goes well.
7 weeks later, we needed to go to the OR for some minor touch up work on the ankle, secondary to when I fell on it last week. Oops. All good now. Healing going well.
Updates. Ever since the second surgery last week, my ankle has been healing up really well and it feels much better. Hoping it's ready to do some logging and firewooding this spring before the summer heat moves in.
Thats great news. Original surgery healed up real nice. Im sure you chomping at the bit, (well log) to get back to firewooding.
Holy crap , my ankle looks almost identical to yours. Two plates and 13 screws to put me back together. I honestly wasn't sure how I would walk again. Thats great you are healing up. Slow process but it will get there.
Good news, hope you continue to recover and that you get the results and quality of life back. Definitely tough to live in pain everyday of your life. Hopefully you are turning the corner.
Thanks. Yes, it has been a struggle post op, but over the last week or so I really "turned the corner."
FWIW, here's why I needed the surgery in the first place. You can see how I used to have a nice, wide, dark band of cartilage between my leg bone (tibia) and my foot bone (talus) back in 2004. However, by 2023, there was white bone rubbing on white bone without any dark cartilage, and the bones were all out of alignment.
Got to be frustrating when chomping at the bit but don’t rush things. Keep the good news coming. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just saw this Mike. Glad your recovery is going well, other than the oops moment when you fell on it.
Today, I was able to get out and help with the sheep chores thanks to my iWalk pirate peg leg. This device is a nice, hands-free mobility tool for certain conditions.
