The first load of wood to be brought up to the deck for the 2017-2018 heating season.

Wood rack in place - Check

Stick/kindling bucket in place - Check
Cold ash can in place - Check

Things properly positioned so as to not interfere with door clearance - Check IMG_20170908_075617482.jpg

The most important course of wood is the first. Making sure all pieces fully straddle both sides of the rack. These pieces will probably be there until sometime next April.

And up it goes. Wagon load after wagon load. Split after split.

The end that's themost open to any weather, I try to stack splits with bark still intact to repel and moisture.

The forecast calls for a couple of chilly mornings this weekend. So, we'll probably have a small fire both mornings to chase off any chills.

    Good to go!!

They work good, so long as you have a solid, level place to use them. It doesn't look too redneck, being on the deck like I have it.

The wood stove is 6-7 steps through that door. Makes for a good location keeping any mess outside.

Oh - I also had the wood stove flue swept out. Looked to be about a double handful of the black stuff.

Getting ready here too, flue & furnace cleaned & checked. 25ish cord css & dry or drying. another 30 laying around in log form or blocks. Sad thing is that rack of wood would only last me 2-3 days in cold weather.

Looking good and ready! I started moving wood from my parents place to my place. Grab a truck load here and there when I pick up the littles from Grandma daycare. Its getting stacked where it will be underneath the future deck. About a dozen steps out the walkout (5 steps up to the door from basement floor. I stack a weeks worth next to the stove on every sunday evening. Still working on a system to get it in the house efficiently because of the stairs.

That rack is 8 foot. Stacked 4-4.5 foot high. Just under 1/3 of a cord, give or take.

Yup. We even need to cover when on a covered porch!
