    It's a diorama, a scale model.

Nice! No truck, though. I will start with the simplest, lowest tech solution to begin with, a stepladder and my wedges.

    You go girl!

Good luck, becareful swinging a sledge hammer on a step ladder sounds a bit sketchy. But one has to do what you have to do to get the job done!

It's in a back yard, behind several levels of terracing. I have to bring out chunks with a hand truck through the neighbors' yard.

    I see,
Is there anything else around that you could attach to, then use a come along and pull it down?

There is the oak stump itself. Could sink a bolt into it. But if I did get it tipped over, with my luck it would fall on the connected part and I'd be up a creek. Really, I think the homeowner's instincts were right when he stood it up. Now there's a horizontal surface to tackle.

The moral of the story is that once Midwinter sets her eye on big wood, she's takin' it home...

I made it down to Lowell, and took apart the stacked rounds. They were not as tall as I remembered, so no need for for a stepladder. IMG_20170915_3397.jpg First the easy part, the half where the rounds were sawed apart: IMG_20170915_0413.jpg IMG_20170915_15696.jpg IMG_20170915_27981.jpg
Then the solid half. The old guy really wanted to come apart, one small wedge split him down to the bottom: IMG_20170915_40482.jpg
    IMG_20170915_49965.jpg
It got a little gnarlier towards the bottom. IMG_20170915_3913.jpg IMG_20170915_11984.jpg

It was hard to figure out what was going on here: IMG_20170915_21848.jpg
    But he popped open. IMG_20170915_33557.jpg
    The final split: IMG_20170915_44780.jpg
    All chunked up: IMG_20170915_51282.jpg
And always my favorite shot, loaded up and ready for home. IMG_20170915_57373.jpg
Hope you enjoyed the blow by blow!

I'm glad to see you ended up standing on that slab, much safer than trying to swing a sledge on a ladder.

Great work! I went and busted up these two today. One normal sized split more than a trunk full. Didn't get the meter on them, but pretty dry. 00B0B_lwtn7o03GKZ_600x450.jpg

Nice maple, quick to dry, not like my oak!
If you have the right tools, you can take the big ones home.

I did use it on the elm the other day. Left some blue paint behind... IMG_20170916_29233.jpg
