This is down by the Maple I split, it was damaged by the ice storm, great firewood that I'll grab next week or weekend.

The circumference at 4 feet is 26 inches, huge tree. :p

We have a bunch of this that took a hit in the ice storm, I just need to get some Brook work done......start my new stacking area so I can get more wood up then I can go after more of the Hop.

Hopefully this year we'll burn some two year old Hop, my neighbor has a nose for it when I go by with it so he usually ends up with it, not this year.

I remember my first time cutting it,some sparks started to fly, that's when I finally realized (after asking) what type of wood I was cutting.

We're have plenty, I won't touch it unless it's damaged, good for the wildlife.

That sounds like the Hickory here; There's a lot of Pignut and Shagbark but they seldom die or get damaged. I've got one dead Shagbark but taking the first casual look at it, it looks like it wants to fall into the pond. We'll see...

Same here. Parents have a fair amount on their 10 acres, most is growing on SE portion with the 2 big steep hills across from the ravine.A few more scattered over remaining part of property.None is over 20-25 feet tall,6"-7" diameter maximum.State record is something like 12" diameter & 40 feet tall in a protected private spot.It never gets very big.But is among the best woods for tool handles,mallets,rollers/levers & other small wooden articles that can take abuse.Rivals Hickory in hardness, strength, resilience & shock resistance. Supposed to be good for archery bows also.Commercial foresters consider it a 'weed tree',but I only cut ones that are recently dead, dying or have broken out/folded over tops from heavy snow/ice storms.

We never burned enough to make a difference, we usually start burning Beech & Sugar Maple when it gets real cold, this year we'll mix this in.

My neighbor usually gets a NY face cord, not this year, I've told him I can't help him with wood this year, he still hasn't ordered his yet.
