It's no saintly move, honest. It's my "less than good" pile of wood. Either turning soft, shorts, etc can go to the campground or I leave it for the burn piles right where I cut it. We've got a big die off here abouts and it needs cleaned up. On the other hand, since I mostly have conifers that look like telephone poles so my wood is by nature much straighter and uniform than some (lucky!) guy who has nothing but Ash and Oak. And my softwood is way way easier to split too - I hand split. When I do stack hardwoods they look like everyone else's hardwood stacks. Above are "drying stacks" with lots of room for summer sun and air flow. And "fillin 'er up!"
Looks good brother. Just saying you are doing a kindly deed. We have cull piles too, we usually burn it and my mom burns it in her Fisher stove. That's one of the cull piles that is thrown together.
You would be if your stacks didn't suck. Come back when your stacks get serious. HAHA JK. Welcome friend! West Coaster here as well (although behind enemy lines). Lots a fir I see! Love me some fir.
Ha ha! Gotch. Arborsite.com has a "You Suck!" thread where you can go to brag about that last great.... whatever it is, and be told "You Suck!" Behind enemy lines. I get it. Better get out of there before it's too late! I've been up your neck of the woods - pretty area.
Secrest Arboretum was hit by a tornado a few years ago...just about leveled the place...still nice...but much different now. Havent been there in some time myself...maybe a lot has been done in recent years...but most of the old trees are gone now.
Yeah we’re out in like 3 years. Wife’s in nursing school so we’re hanging tight until that’s done. Hate to leave this place but the politics are so bad it’s become unbearable. We’re thinking Lewis County WA. We’ve got family up that way. It’s not Idaho but it’ll do I think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wow, I'm impressed. Just look at all those neat stacks. Lots of honest sweat hours there. Nice honest folks here. I don't know your age in the Avatar, but if it is within the past few years, you look in good shape for 59 yr. Must be some good clean living. Saw what I think is a kennel the the building. Dog? Thanks for the pics. Pics are really liked here. I don't know of any GTG's in your area, but you might want to follow the postings of them when they happened. Should you be able to attend them, they are really fun.
Hi Ya Larry, No, no dog. Got a black bear instead, but he's shy. I have not held up as well as my icon - proof below. My Granddaughter asked "Do tree's have birthday's Papa?" And we explored the mysteries of tree rings together. It was at once both inconceivable to her and a revelation about life outside of her own tiny being.
Good for you teaching your granddaughter about the life of a tree in its rings. There is so much to be told there. I have a bunch of Pocket Naturalist Guides that I use with my grandkids. They are all ears when we do a little ID's Glad you are able to keep the weight off. I got huge and fight the battle every day. Never knew anyone with a pet bear. Around here, it is near impossible to keep wild life unless you jump through hoops of permits. Mostly injured animals unable to survive on their own. Again, welcome to the group. Makes friends, swap stories and enjoy
Larry, I was making a (poor) joke about the pet bear - he's wild - and just comes to eat our apples. Please accept my apology. Grandkids are gifts. I definitely struggle with weight like most of us guys getting older!!
That's all good, Got a good chuckle. Haven't seen a bear in my yard as yet. Just about everything else comes through. I had an older uncle who went walking in some of the bramble bushes. He came back saying he saw bear sign. We have fisher cats, bob cats, coyotes which have mixed with wolves. Bigger than most coyotes. Deer, racoon, skunks, minks, beaver, ducks, and on and on. It isn't too bad, but they are all always looking for a meal.
Awesome! Great to see you passing on your knowledge to our next generation. I'm sure see will remember that forever.
