Here's some pictures of some I built last winter. If you look closely you will see where I have wrapped it with smooth wire a few times to keep it from exploding and or falling down, for the long run. I won't burn it till at least next year.
Here you can see 3 rows of wire clearly, I added to keep it from falling down on me. I started doing this after I had part of it fall down on me, earlier, in the build.
I tore one Holshausen down, a few weeks ago and it's on my porch now, to burn this winter. The two pictured above are still standing and frankly there's two winters of wood for me in those two, combined. and I have a bunch more wood ricked up in regular stacks. I believe I have 4 years of wood now. And will probably cut another year's worth after the 1st, this winter.
I’m hoping this will help it stay put. It is three short pieces of chain link fence that was laying around the shop. It’s lacking about 4’ from going completely around but I think there’s more available. I’m sure one longer piece that would go clear around would be better.
That thing will never blow- out or fall out. At least not with anything short of a 9.0 earthquake and frankly, after one of those I doubt you will care about the holz hausen anyway. Great job- it looks 'strong like bull', should be basically bullet- proof and the fence will not get in the way of the hausen seasoning in the least. Honestly I think that is the very best idea I have seen yet to make a robust, stable holz hausen!
We started our family project today. I’ve already realized I should have made the radius a little more gradual. Time will tell.
Yes it’s a oval, 4 pallets but their not square. Didn’t measure them, I was just happy to find plastic pallets. Have some old deck boards, trying to tie the corners together. Should have stacked the center but I just tossed in.
I think probably everyone’s first one is a learning experience. I know it was for me. My basic HH is done but it’s getting some custom features. Today I got the cedar shingles on the addition/ entryway. I sure have a lot of time in it already, but I figure if I have to look at it for 3 years it might as well look cool.
Sounds cool, I cut a couple walnut trees down at the neighbors couple weeks ago. That’s what’s going to be my shingles. It will all be ash other than the shingles.
Finished up this weekend all ash but the roof, and it’s walnut with a couple pieces of Black Locust bark on top.
Thanks. Yes first one. We will see if it stands the test of time. It didn’t turn out like I had envisioned. I’d like to make one that will hold close to 3 cord, I burn a little over 3 cord a season so I think that would be cool.
