been doing some reading on Madsens sight thanks to definitive dave's post. If just been clearing the chips and dust from my filters, but it appears that I should be washing with soapy water occasionally. What do you find to be the best way to deep clean your filters and how often do you deep clean them? Thanks FHC!
I've sprayed some old nasty ones out with brake cleaner, non flammable brake clean would probably be the best. Let it dry before reinstalling. Take the filter off and split it open if it is that style and hold it up towards a light and see what it looks like.
I am not an expert by any means, most of mine have the green foam prefilter around the filter. I generally hit that with compressed air everytime I come back to the garage and the filter inside it also. Outside filter gets washed about once a week or when I can see that it's dirty inside filter if I can't get it clean enough I just replace. I would hate to lose an engine because of a $3 filter.
Ouch, my niece worked at dealership and bought me several at her cost. I don't Remember the price on my 260, but it was way less than 10 bucks a piece
Picked a few things up at my dealer today and was looking for a pre-filter replacement for my Stihl 660. Well the filter I have has been discontinued and Stihl doesn't make the prefilters anymore! Well how much to replace the filter? ... $40 plus shipping! I did some checking and a Max Flow filter with new plastic cover is like $60. Any thoughts on converting to ZMax Flow?
Max Flo is far superior to any of the oem offerings. Foam filters require filter oil, so get some of that too
