Hello The old unit kept tripping the breaker and finally there was a burning smell it it stopped. So I got a new LG wall unit Model LT101j6CER and optional sleeve for an easy install and servicing. First I do want to mention that it is a good 9,800 BTU unit but the instructions a very flawed when they say to install the sleeve flush with the wall and use the foam strips to give the unit some tilt so the water or condensation will not flow into the house! This just does not work and you must install the sleeve at an angle to make the water flow outside! I install the top of the sleeve flush with the Sheetrock and the bottom pulled out about and 1” from the Sheetrock. Also I used wood shims on the sides to keep the sides straight before screwing the sides in with round head screws and washers. Other than that every thing else is fine and once you get the sleeve or what I call the shell in the wall the rest is easy peasy. This is a good standard size shell 26” x 15.5” and fits many models, so should better going forward! Anyway this is a 120 unit to be plugged into a 15 Amp AC outlet so since the old one is burned up, I got a new one and a new circuit breaker. In the meantime, I have it on an AC heavy duty extension cord to get through the rest of this Hot as Hati heat wave! The old unit had to shelf brackets to hold it up on the outside but the sleeve of the new unit is screwed into the wall stud on one side and a 2x4 that is screwed into the wall stud on the other side so no outside support is needed. Now I can get a custom winter cover that will slip right on the unit. Pic 1,2 & 3 = old AC Samsung AW1216 - Manual does not state BTUs but control panel states 12,000 BTUs Pic 4 = burned up AC wall outlet Pic 5 - 8 = widen hole of old AC unit to fit new one. Pic 9 - 11 = new LG AC wall unit with optional sleeve.
Ummm, you lucked out on the old outlet. That could've started a fire. When we rented a carriage house before buying our house, we had window units. I think they all said to install them flush, but you have to angle them to get the condensate to go outside.
some of the new units use the condensate to help cool the Freon by allowing the fan to pick it up and spray it on the coil- hence a bit better efficiency . and the condensate is evaporated off almost zero drip some do not even have a weep hole in the pan.
Yes, this unit has been running all day and no water dripping out! The old one would have had water pouring out onto the walkway! Got it installed in the nick of time for the hottest day this year! 93 Deg F outside 73 Deg F inside
I got lucky in college, rented a room in a house with 3 friends, 2 of my roommates told their parents who visited told them to sleep on the couch . HUH?? Both times I gave the unknown to me parents my room. Small futon 4" off the floor but atleast they had some privacy, jeesh. The light switch in my room was acting up, it did not click up and down unless one consciously did it with intent and pressure when most of us are used to light switches clicking up or down with a flick - I did not think about it, too busy doing what I was doing at that age, it burned up and flickered into a flame when the second roommates parents were staying in my room. Came home one evening after work to be shown a newly rewired light switch and soot up the wall. We were lucky they were there since I was usually gone all the time and nobody would have noticed till damage or God forbid it was too late for whoever or out pets to escape. I'm still dismayed all these years later how the roommates were so disrespectful to their parents, but there are no coincidences in God's world........ Similar to Don's pic above, no fire though, it happened later when owned our own home (new wiring in the addition), I was sewing on my grandmother's old sewing machine I was given after she passed, BANG No fire but scared the bejeebies out of me and scorched the wall. Glad it's fixed don2222 and enjoy the cold air
Thanks for your comments. This is the first time it happened to me. The old air conditioner would trip the breaker and we kept resetting it until one day we smelled smoke! Then we just stopped using it. After 25 years we knew we should get a new one, so it sat there for a long time until we had the time and money to get a new one. I knew it would be a tough job but luckily my assistant who helps me on the pellet stove jobs agreed to work with me on this, you can see him in the pics. Thankfully it took only one day to get er in. It was the second day of this 4 day heat wave and it was hot hard work but we did it! Yesterday was the hottest day this year and finally it was only 73 in the house when it was 93 outside! I was so worn out I put a heavy extension cord on the new AC unit until I fixed the outlet last night! It ran all day yesterday and no water dripping. The new units with remote control where you can set the temperature like this one are very efficient! It fit without moving my 100% weather proof outdoor white speaker box that I built out of Composite wood! If there is any bad weather I close the box and that way the speaker will last! So all fixed now!
Yes, I am lucky on the AC outlet failure. Funny thing is that we used it for the sawzall when installing the new AC unit without a problem but the new unit draws a lot more current that the sawzall so that is when I noticed the problem! Installing the sleeve is the trick. Here are some better instructions http://www.hvachowto.com/2019/05/05/how-to-install-a-through-the-wall-air-conditioner-sleeve/ I wanted a sleeve that was more of a standard size of that is even possible so I got the LG TTW Sleeve with Louvered grill: AXSVA4 This new sleeve is 25-7/8 by 15-17/32 for the 10K BTU LT1016CER so Roughly 26 x 15.5 The last pic states universal fit for a 26" sleeve for this 8K BTU LG model and the 10K & 11.5K 230 VAC LG models also fits this sleeve so that is at least 4 LG models that use the same case. I hope this is a little more common? Is that a good choice? https://www.homedepot.com/p/LG-Electronics-Wall-Case-for-LG-Built-In-Air-Conditioner-AXSVA4/202065340
Hello I finally cut the 26”wide by 1” high piece of sheet rock to patch the space under the wall thru shell. Then it just needs wall paint.
Hello Now to keep them ship shape and eliminate drafts in the winter, we got 3 heavy duty canvas custom fit outside covers with elastic corners from coversandall! Custom Covers – Patio, TVs, Fire Pits, Firewood, BBQ Grills– Coversandall we just uploaded a pic and outside dimensions with the order and asked for elastic corners so they just slide on and hold tight. Now it is cold outside but they are protected from ice and snow and cozy inside! See air conditioner covers here. Search results for: 'air conditioner covers'
