Anyone have experience with these lil' buggers? I've seen them around for a while and am curious, so I ordered some tonight. I have a box of the #4+1 buck, and a box of slugs. Little things, 1-3/4" long, 5/8-7/8 oz. loads. Reviews on function in an 870 are "iffy", but I said what the heck. I've been sick since last Thurs. and can't sleep from the cough/cold meds. so that's my excuse for ordering them. Hey, if nothing else the old H&R single shot has some fodder. Has anyone tried them?
That guy is funny! The Aguilas' are even smaller than what he used. They're like the "cocktail weiners" of the 12g. world.
Interesting, I guess the entire point is just a higher magazine capacity for home defense. Did some quick reading, sounds like these were developed for police to use in guns specifically designed for these rounds. I would be a little worried about how they'd do in 870's and 500's if you really are using them for home defense.
Seems like the Kel-Tec KSG guys like them fine. I think they're good in Win 1300's also. 870's and 500's, not so much without mods to the carriers. I dunno but I'll find out !
I can't imagine a scenario where a normal 2-3/4" or 3" load wouldn't stop just about anyone on their tracks at close range! I've shot enough 3.5" loads that there's no way I'd want to shoot one indoors!!
They showed up today. Cute little buggers. 1-3/8" long. Took the capacity of the Pardner from 5 (2-3/4") to 9. The 870 went from 9 (2-3/4") to 16. And of course, they didn't cycle well at all. I'll goof with them but they're not for home defense. The single shot should love them. May have to look for a coach gun double. I'll let you know what the felt recoil vs. regular buckshot feels like if I get to the range this weekend.
That's a good question. I suppose it all depends on the local 3 gun rules. Up here they would probably be an advantage with some of our magazine restrictions. Or tube length.
Oooh boy, they are pretty cool! If only they'd feed in a pump. So, just pretty much novelty rounds unless you have a single or double. Recoil was less than low base. But for their size, they had plenty of POP! If funds were available I know I could modify an old 2-3/4 chambered pump to function with them, I just don't have enough of them to make the effort worthwhile. If you have an old single shot, these could fill a niche. Outside of that, too pricey to mess with. (I'm going to market the empty hulls to some of those snowboarder kids with the big-hoop earlobes, you've seen them I'm sure)
If they made them in 20 ga I'd consider buying them, I think it'd be a great starter round for kids. It kid of stinks getting them into shotguns, they need a lighter gun like a single shot because they don't have the strength to hold a pump, but the single shot is so light even a low brass load kicks hard for them.
