A thread on asparagus and the dislike of it as a kid gave me this idea. What foods did you hate as a kid and now like and when did you start liking it or have you developed a dislike for something you once loved?

I had a massive change in my taste buds from 18 through about 20. In that timeframe I started eating egg salad, potato salad, onions, baked and refried beans, pickles, hard boiled eggs. Around 13 I started to not like braunschwager when I liked it before. Now I flat out hate it.

Both my wife and I hated onions and peppers as kids but love them now.

I can't think of anything specific ... but I intentionally try things that I know I didn't like before, because it does change for sure. Sauerkraut is one I can think of.

With us stubborn ol' Germans in ND sauerkraut is a staple in our diet.

Crave hard boiled eggs as adult, cannot stand braunschwager as an adult, or vienna sausages either.

For about 5 years in my early 20's I could not stand hot dogs. In the last 10 years just started liking muskmelon. Never liked brats until I was around 30.

I guess I'm not old yet because I like all the same stuff. My parents fed me everything...eat it or don't eat at all. My BILs haven't eaten a vegetable in 20 years...

You have that right. I got ill on oysters as a kid. Couldn't get near them again until the last few years. When I was young, I ate liver. Now you couldn't pay me to eat it. In fact, my meat preferences are much more limited now. Also my stomach doesn't like a lot of things now. Raw Green peppers are one of those things. I haven't drank a cup of plain milk since I was a kid.

I ate melons, grapefruit & oranges and avacado til I was adult. Now, they do not agree with me, crazy! And avocado sends me in full tilt "stomach flu" now if I eat it.

Avocado is about the only thing that will do that to me. Every time. Poor me, I like guacamole.

I lost my taste for baloney and cheap hot dogs, I used to eat them.

Any idea why? Allergy, missing enzyme, or genetics?

Not sure why but I have a very good hunch. In my late teens and all of 20's I became unable to eat cucumber melons broccoli and it all made me have a sour stomach or turn into a salad shooter. I quit drinking and after a few years my innards repaired themselves and I can now eat them. I may have one beer if it is offered to be polite but before I quit it was to the point that a case was not enough to get me through a night so I would get 2 and be lucky to have a 12 pack left. Not sure if it was my gall bladder liver or pancreas but something wasn't liking it nor was my wife. I can eat them all again.

    No idea.

Not my issue, I don't drink. Not as in never, but very rarely; I don't think I have had any drink in 2016 yet.

When I was a kid, I didn't like runny eggs - fried, poached or soft boiled. Now I don't mind them although my favorite way of eating them is still hard boiled mashed with butter.

I really didn't like lima beans either. I guess I should try them and see if my taste has changed.

    Since getting to the other side of menopause;
    • I dislike asparagus (used to love it).
    • Have found liquorice more tolerable whereby although I don't seek it out, I also don't separate them out from a handful of jelly beans like I used to (and spit them out if I found one the hard way) [as an aside, the spellchecker on this forum has suggest "liquor ice" instead of liquorice ].
    • Used to really dislike pepperoni, wouldn't even eat it on pizza. Now I eat stand-alone pepperoni all the time (sometimes I slather it with cream cheese) and go thru several bags of Hormel Pepperoni a month.
    • Used to really like cantaloupe and muskmelons. Now they are kind of meh - I won't throw them off my plate, but won't specifically choose to buy any either
    • Like raw green pepper now - before I only liked them cooked
    I'm sure there are more

Right where I want to be.
I've never liked green bell peppers...unless they're stuffed.
Still mostly just eat the innards.

Didn't like mushrooms as a kid, now I do in spaghetti sauce and on pizza.
    Uh, no anchovies please.
Can't stomach the idea of eating raw oysters or clams. Aphrodisiac or not.

There are so many things that I used to absolutely enjoy and eat until bursting! Now it seems that tastes have changed but not been replaced. I get hungry but don't know what will satisfy it, you know? Seems to be happening more than I care to admit.

You got to try scallops fresh out of the drag and shucked. Absolute best way I've ever had them was fresh raw and cold. Although Michigan is a ways from here it's worth the adventure,I'll set you up with someone who drags if you're interested.
