Brad38 , either location should work fine. Its mostly a matter of the how much chimney/chase is visible (and some $ for chase material and maybe extra class A) vs how well the lay out works. Personally, I would go with the preferred layout. This is where you will spend your time and what's some chimney showing or a few hundred $ gonna mean in the long run. Enjoy your investment.

Good thoughts, Thanks! I have some contractors coming out to give bids over the next 2 weeks for everything, and hope to begin in about 8 weeks. I'll keep you all posted when there's something to report! :)

I e-mailed Woodstock today to find out all the colors available. They use a paint supplier by the name of Forrest Paint. (Forrestpaint.com) I called and ordered color samples just to see what's out there. I've seen lots of pics of the stove online, and we're kinda digging the metallic brown with surf sand accents right now. Also, on their site, they have spray paint for chimney flues that match the most popular roof colors. Thoughts on this? Never even considered painting the chimney! Lol.

you would have to scuff everything up with some fine sandpaper or it probably would not stick,, probably would just fall right off after a while if you did not

I agree with HDRock you'd need to scuff to get it to stick. If your going to paint it or enclose it in a chase save some cash and get the galvanized outer wall class A.

So....my renovation has been going on for two weeks. We have the breakfast nook nearly done, and the garage conversion is well on its way. Penny from Woodstock says my Ideal Steel should be ready in early July! :dex:

I'll post more pics tomorrow...been pretty busy.

    Thanks everyone!

    More pics:

New entrance cut in our existing living room: will have a barn door slider on a track to close it off if needed:

Have another identical patio door going in on other side:

New recessed lighting is in/w dimmer. These babies are bright!! Middle wall above hearth will be slate ledgestones. Hearth pad will be slate flagstones. Two wall sconces also. They built that hearth like a tank...lol

They also dropped off my new firewood shed yesterday! It's actually advertised as a horse run-in shelter, but I thought it would be perfect for my purposes. I wish I would have taken pictures of them off-loading it. It's 9x20. They tied it down with mobile home stakes. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Just waiting for seasoned wood for first year's burn :) I also asked they plywood all three sides for me. They were a great company to deal with. Still need to backfill with gravel.

What about a decorative dormer above the wood stove to hide and support the new flue?

That is a great idea! Would look better than a 10' tall boxed-in chase. I'm not going to box it up until next year. I want to get through one burning season to make sure I have enough length and good draft.
