When asked for opinion/advice I will sometimes say... Grandpa always said don't cut towards yourself, money don't grow on trees, never trust a politician and, then insert my attempt at making the right choice or advice. Usually to a coworker warning them about I am going to do/say something that a more civilized well restrained professional person wouldn't do, usually to management with no clue. I will say/do __________ I've seen me do it before. Then give them the option to exit before uncomfortable situation starts.

I told the kids something like this decades ago when they started having summer jobs. If you want a day off, don't ask for it.....just tell them that you won't be here on Friday the 17th (or whatever). But, don't abuse it. Works like a charm.
