I'll try and remember you once they start falling. Thought I heard a few fall on the ground last night. So they might be starting soon. Last year was a bumper crop so we'll see how many there are this year.

I measured the circumference of my big red oak. At least I think it's a red, could be black oak I guess. The Circumference is 9'4". It's a big tree with great form. Couple pics of the leaves, acorns that are falling and my cell phone for a size reference. The dog, willow, is just there guarding it in case squirrels attack...

I spose I take it for granted having so many oak trees on my property. collectively I have 36 acres of full canopy and I'd guess that at least 60% is oak. I also would be happy to help you. unfortunately none of mine have started to drop acorns yet. I have a mix, mostly reds, although there are a few large whites. I'm no good with specific species of oak, the only ones I know for 100% are my chestnut oaks.

As long as oaks are the subject I have a question maybe one of you can answer. I haven't researched it yet so my bad but which oaks drop the large red acorns?

Not burr oak big. Maybe an inch and a half long and like a brownish red color. Can't really remember very well sense it was last fall.

Mine are looking about the same as yours. Just found one today while picking up stuff in the yard. They should get lots bigger by fall.

Here's one of my smooth barked red oaks. I'm pretty certain it's northern, and I think it's relatively young. It's about 20" DBH and it's one of the prettiest sticks I've got.

Most of them look more like this one. It's about the same size but I think it's a bit older.

Here are some pictures of the oaks around my yard. First pics are trees right around the house. image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg These are some leaves but I realized most are too high up to see well. image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg one more before going back in the house. Any ideas about type please don't be shy. I have an idea about some.

Pointy is a red, rounded is a white. I'd also guess white for the trees in the first couple pics. Do those have rounded leaves?

I really liked "Trees of the Northern United States and Canada" - seemed to cover most trees you find in our zone.

My guess on that one was post oak. I've found this shape around the yard but haven't located the tree yet.
