During 2020 I only managed to collect one load of wood because at the start of the year it was too dry and dangerous to run a saw and a lot of our forests were on fire. Then things got even worse. So I only went out cutting once with HuskyMatt, I was looking forward to getting out the bush again and giving the saws a run. Friday afternoon I took my ute out to have a look around and find some good trees to cut, the weather was beautiful. I got up early this morning and headed up the bush before the sun came up. I set up and put my safety gear on and fuelled the saws just at sunrise. Had some good Eucalyptus to cut. the big rounds were a challenge to load.
Looks like Fun! Here where I live wildland fire is a problem also. Is the eucalyptus considered a softwood or hardwood? I think there is eucalyptus in Central california, but that is 300 miles south of me.
Yes eucalyptus is a hardwood, my arms are certainly telling me that it is after splitting it all with a Fiskars x27 and IsoCore maul. There are eucalyptus trees in California we saw some in LA in 2019 at the end of our US trip.
Once I was all loaded up I proceeded down the hill, when I got in to the valley the dust was laying on the road like talk, even going slowly I could not see the trailer at times for all the dust. My ute and trailer are going to need a wash. I usually split as I unload, it reduces lifting. Found some witchetty grubs. They are edible.
They may be edible but that does not mean they are good maybe batter dipped and fried it's not dusty here mud and melting snow JB
That's why we get ahead with our firewood supply! Though I would be a nervous wreck that my stacks would burn up!
Looks like you had a good day leoht. The dust on the trailer reminds me of the mud on the splitters after we moved them when we cut for Jim. This is the only picture I could find right now:
You're entering your fall months, I think. Cooler temps for getting wood. Nice load there. I like your hauling toys.
I think all of us who are dealing with mud would love some dry conditions but it’s sucks that it gets too dry to safely run a saw
Actually Ali cooked me some noodles with salami for lunch. Molly you may remember we had a close call with a wildfire last year.
