sorry to hear that, that was a sweet gig. Ever see any action at the site? Maybe your work ethic made him and his buddies look bad
He worked smarter, I worked harder! Low key guy. The "kids" he had working for him seemed like good employees based on my observations and the few times I talked with them I see them come and go all the time when I'm at storage working. His yard is way up in back and not visible from the road. Really scratching my head as to what happened. He talked of clearing an area for me to work there which I mentioned in that thread. I need several cords for inventory and ASAP for a few customers.
Stop in and ask the guy if he needs your services any more. If the answer is no, then move on. No confrontation at all.
Yep, no confrontation just a friendly chat, see what’s up. Don’t forget your charm, you could sell a dozen rotten eggs to a chicken farmer
I was racking up this coming winters heat from one of my stacks today and got into a section of Honey Locust...man, it was just totally covered in frass! It took almost twice as long to load the racks (compared to other species) due to trying to knock off some of the frass. Starting to think that maybe HL is not worth the headache. This wood was top covered from day one, but doesn't seem to have made much difference in the amount of "ventilation" the bugs added to my BTUs, as compared to the last time I got HL and did not top cover at first. I thought maybe the faster I could get it dried out would make the bugs move on sooner...didn't seem to matter much though. About the only difference I see is with the top cover the frass didn't lay wet and make some of the splits rot like last time I had a quantity of HL. What a mess
That sure is a mess and wouldn't blame you if you didn't take it anymore. Ill have to check my 3yo old stack and see. Keep an eye on the fresh one too.
Fell behind on my splitting. Got the rest split and stacked today. Each row 4' x 6'. A few pieces short. A couple chunks I'll noodle to finish. A tight cord for the score. Now to let it sleep as MikeInMa says for a couple years.
Well chit. I have a couple cords stacked. Did this wood see full sun and good wind exposure? That's worse than the hickory I've had in the past. Wonder what I could do to try and prevent it. Couple boxes of mothballs?
Those beetles got into our small rounds shed and ventilated hickory, oak and some maple...we just bumped it off and wiped off the spider webs....burns great
Yeah I just knocked it off too, but not near all of it came off...this is going to be messy wood to load into the firebox
Sun kinda, wind yes! Mothballs, couldn't hurt to try...how long has it been stacked? I think most of the damage is dine in the first 6-12 months CSS'd
I checked my stack of HL from May 22 and didn't see any frass. It was kinda crammed in back in the wood yard and didn't unstack any. Guess I'm lucky.
