Ok.... split some more of the mystery wood. I smelled the fresh split. Not too strong and was pleasant. Sorry, not sure how else to describe it.

Here are a few more pictures if it helps anyone with the ID. Thanks.

Seeing that now, I'm swerving toward a hickory species..... not red oak. Here's some red oak I just snapped. (Lucky you if hickory!)

Thanks. I'm glad it's a harder wood (Hickory or not) because I'm stacking it with my Locust.

Oh...and I had help getting the wood stacked today. Could not have done it without him.

That looks to be as high as he can reach..... Looks like you'll have to finish the rest!

I think Scotty said it earlier but I have some pignut hickory I got last summer looks "ALOT" like that now that you gave us a close up!… I'm by far an expert and I took the tree book out to look at mine… I think Scotty hit this one, Although it still looks like "firewood" to me:p

I was starting to wonder if it wasn't sweetgum - it would split all gnarly with zig-zags
If it is hickory that's some serious growth rings and some of the smoothest splitting
