Our neighbor buried a bunch of pine in behind his house, he brought in plenty of fill about four years ago because it settled so much. I'm not sure how long he was there but he did say that he wished that he spent the extra money on clean fill when they built the place, he sold it just about a year ago.
I'm a thinking that's probably the way to go, no? I didn't have a tractor (still don't) and had to do it all by hand. All told, about 60 yards of soil. That's why it was done over the period of a few years..
Nothing wrong with the pine brotha from another motha.... split her up like teenagers on a date let them doggies sun for a year and burn em when the wife gets cold..
We'll have eight face cord ready for this falls shoulder season. I would like more in the inventory but that will have to wait until I clear out another area just for stacking pine. We've done plenty of thinning out the smaller and dead pine but we still have a ton of work left.
I like pine. We have scotch white and loblolly pine here. I used to avoid it but found the white pine is really sappy but dries out nice in a yr. Used for kindling. Split it up to 1 by 1x 16in. sticks..
We took two more down today, I'll get the splitter or the tractor with the bucket in there so I can clean it up some before dropping the next three trees. We have another four pines that are back near the propane tank that we'll put the cable on when we drop them.
Thanks Gasifier , it looks like we have some rain and then snow coming in, maybe 3-5 inches of snow for up here.
Zap you must be starting to get pretty handy at felling trees by now rather than just cutting the blowdowns?!
Don't bet your paycheck on it. I still consider myself one step up from a novice but if mother nature doesn't put any on the ground that will change.
I moved the good pine out with the bucket on the 4540 to our new pine splitting area. In the first picture you can see where I came down between the two trees and the last picture should be a downed branch of a Pine that came down in the wind event the other night.
After we put in two loads of wood, I decided that is was time to burn some of the pine and pine branches. Picture 0014 is some basswood kindling I start the fires with, 0016 is the pile I started with, 0017 is it finally getting its start, 0018 & 0019 is after I had a good bed of coals I loaded it up, 0020 is part of what's left, 0021 is the side most of the branches were on, 0023 is the strong sun today.
Picture 0025 is the mole that kept coming out to eat pine and some leaves, I guess the mole needs a workout from the looks of it and 0026 is the last wood I put on.
Dunno about there, but here it is illegal to bury stumps or logs...any wood really, IIRC it is an EPA thing.
