Just bought my wife a Ruger LCR (6 shot 38, lightweight). Went with 50 grain self defense ammo, no more kick than a 22. Crimson Trace red dot. Good luck with finding a keeper for your dad. (more than half the fun is shopping and shooting looking for THE one!)

I think the SW Shield is a good priced semi. You mentioned double stacked models. be cautious on that. unless he wears a size L or XL glove. those can be pretty fat on the handgrip, and that will affect the ergonomics that most of the items suggested have going for them.

This P80 (evil 80% frame ghost gun) with Glock 23 internals and slide with a Lone Wolf Dist. 9mm conversion barrel shoots pretty nice. Warning: it ain't cheaper but non-serialized has its benefits. Plus I can choose between 9mm and 40.

I was looking at these, and comparing prices. Yeah, it's definitely not less money than simply buying a gun. It can be with AR's, but I haven't seen any pistol kits ( outside of at pistols) that cost less than the originals.

I have both Ruger and S&W. Like both. No complaints with either.

Well after careful deliberation.... I pulled the trigger on a Sig P365XL.... Seeing how the P365 was nearly the same gun as the Hellcat... but the rep of Sig kept coming back to me.. should be here next week....

Can’t go wrong with a Sig. that’ll work gooder. I haven’t shot a 365 but can imagine it’s quite pleasant to shoot. 9mm, correct?
Can’t wait to see some pics.

I carry a P365, have had it for almost a year now. You made a good choice.

Which one did you get? I got the xl, figured that added length would be a bit better on firing...

Standard 365, the XL was introduced after I'd had it a while. Sights are great, very manageable recoil even with 124gr. +P. I upgraded to the 12 rnd. magazines and can get a full grip with those (but I have small hands). Very concealable going with appendix carry and a hoodie.

Yea, I'm probably going to grab a 15 round mag... :D... one of the reasons I went with the xl also...give me 14 shots to miss....:emb:

My older neighbor has an older Browning 9mm high power he wants to sell. Anyone have any info on them? It looks like a nice gun. Definitely not to compact though.

Oh man! There's so many good options! For cheap I'd say Ruger Security 9 as someone else said. Excellent brand, great gun, Hickock45 aproves so it's good! haha Around the $300 mark. Also in the same price range is the S&W SD9mm. I have the .40cal version and I love it. It's my home defense gun. Or one of them haha. For a little more money I'd suggest the S&W M&P 9mm Compact 2.0 I just got one these, and I LOVE IT. It may be my new favorite gun, and I have a BUNCH. It just feels so good in the hand with the new stippling on the grip and the angle of the grip. Size wise it's identical to a Glock 19. Comes with 15 round magazines but can run the full size 17 round ones too and even comes with mag extensions if you decide to do so. Then it's the same as the fullsize M&P. These run in the $500 t0 $550 range. Something so loveable about a full frame 9mm. Such good shooters.
