the funny part is that when Mom was growing up in Vancouver, they used to get winters with snow. It is funny to watch the news about how unprepared they are but then Vancouver advertises itself on having mild winters and people believe it. If you watch the weather patterns for southwest BC, inevitably the arctic front comes down and meets the pacific moist air and we get snow. I didn't realize that eastern BC was getting that much snow.
I remember growing up in Richmond in the 70s and 80s and remember it snowing and also remembering how disappointed when the weather man would come on the news and say "good news folks! The snow will turn to rain overnight!" That used to depress me as a kid. Yeah weve been getting quite a bit of it out here. Im in a sliver of the province that is known for heavy snow loads. Its simmered down over the last little bit though which is nice. I only top cover my stacks so I took a section of it yesterday and dug the snow out down to the pallet making a trench so that my stacks are able to breath.
haven't forgotten about ya chief! but it's still snowin... well it did stop for 8 hours... so been snow blowing.. my outside stacks are 200 yards behind the barn... this years wood is on covered wood deck... when the snow above your arse.. makes for harder walks... but this is normal.. but I will get there with camera soon..
here a long distance shot 3 feet on ground chief got to snow blow again! there's about 12 cord out there!
I'm actually quite envious of many of you this year. I have some great snow on the stacks pics from previous years, but alas none this year. We've had a total of... maybe... one inch of snow spread across maybe three snow events in my part of southcentral PA. While my back doesn't like it, the rest of me does like a good snowstorm... at least once a year. I could try to find a couple snow on the stacks pics from a couple years ago if anybody wants to see them!
RobGuru to a fellow hoarder I would say travel north... I can spare some.. just got done blowing snow.. and another wave just started ... pic out front window it's pretty white out.. to others that don't love snow hey they are pretty pics to look at...
I remember how we used to laugh all the time because Buffalo, NY would be on the news because they got so much snow. Hum.... Seems we always got much more than they did but ours never got on the news. Rarely even made the local news leave alone the national. One year in particula I remember Buffalo was 220" and they thought that was just awful and unbelievable. Hum... It was not big deal for us and we got a whole lot more than they did. But, if you don't live in a populated area, it won't make the news. That's just how it is in the north country. One year we sold a home and the new buyers wanted to know how much LP was in the tank. I sent my son out to shovel down to the tank so we could see how much was in it. They did buy the house and they still talk about how every time they would come home the dogs would be sitting on the roof peak waiting for them. They'd just walk up the snow onto the roof. No big deal. Kids in town would make money shoveling roofs in the winter like other kids make money mowing lawns in summer. A very common thing too is having snowmobiles riding along all the village streets. No locals gave it much thought. It was great for the tourists.
Yeah same around here. A town of 4000 people hardly ever makes the news about our snow falls but a major city? Top news story.
Well it looks Beautiful to me. Makes me remember some of our snows like that. One year the kids were climbing up the snow drift in back to the peak of the roof and sledding down. So much fun. Back then nobody freaked out like they do now. Chief. And no, we don't make the news either BS
You know it seems like I've been cleaning snow off of things and snowblowing for the past week. But I love winter and the snow, the whole outside world is changed for a few months (or more). It's hard to believe the lakes we're driving across in February, we'll swimming in come June.
