I'm in Florida for thanksgiving, and was out clearing some land for my grandma. Pulled the saw out of the face cut I was making and let it go down by my side before the chain stopped completely and caught my leg.... Luckily the only injury was to my pant leg and pocket, but I know Im lucky. Always wear your chaps when cutting!
Amen BB, you can never be reminded enough. I got in a rush a couple years ago because I got out about 90 min. before dark so was in a hurry to get cutting. Forgot about putting the chaps on and the saw grazed my pants, I have 2 patches ironed on that pair of jeans and have not cut without them again since.
My saw, ms291. I think the only reason I didn't draw blood is because the chain was just about to stop, I wasn't on the throttle. I took a little break after that happened though

I did the same thing many years ago, and I am always very deliberate in any cutting situation, checking footing/escape routes/etc. Partly because of you guys I recently purchased a pair of chain saw pants (not chaps) I found on CL. Never used and the guy only wanted $45 and they are Stihl brand! Thanks for upping my safety threshold!!! Also I was digging around and found my orange Stihl suspenders from back in the 80's! I'll be stylin in the woods!
You're a lucky man! About 15 years ago the same thing cost me 8 stitches just above the knee. Safety gear, don't leave home without it!
Did the same thing Sunday barf.Had the big Husky from the farm down in the swamp and after i dropped a tree i guess i just let the saw drop down far enough to grab my pants. Looked down for a bit to see if the blood was gonna start but luckily it was just the jeans and a touch of the longjohns that got it. Went to a sewing place by work yesterday to see if the lady could sew on a couple of big leather patches on my old insulated jeans and was told i had to go somewhere with an open faced sewing machine,whatever that means? So will be making a couple calls today and see if someone else in town can do it.
Thank you for the reminder, bigbarf. Forgetful types like myself should use this thread to always keep "Safety First" in the front of our thoughts when doing wood.
Glad you (an loon) didn't get bit worse - phew. I bought a used Stihl 039 a couple years ago - guy threw in a helmet and chaps and these are chaps I use - they have a nice gouge out of the thigh - makes me think about safety every time I put them on to cut. Cheers!
