Took the quad out for a stroll tonight to snag one of my favorite wood species... Black locust. Thought it was a nice sunset that some of you might enjoy, so I posted it up. Hope my FHC family is all doing well!
That's what I have in my trailer. I'll make another thread, but this is a clear cut for a hp natural gas line... That my neighbor and I have been logging. We have been at it pretty hard off and on the last couple weeks. We've been making log length stacks and setting them outside of the right of way (we're on a tight time crunch), which we'll come back and get when the weather breaks.
That's the way to get the wood out, as quick as possible on situations like that. You never know when it's going to be shut down. I was cutting an area that was being cleared to open up some farm land. The excavator dude said take as much as you want. State Soil and Water guy came in and shut them down two days later. I was able to get 5-6 pickup loads and that was it.
I was just pokin around on the quad. Everything we have been snatching has been with a big skid steer, chains, and a grapple. They moved some big equipment in today, they were pretty impressed with how much we moved (saved them some work too) that they are going to move some of the remaining logs we couldn't get to for us and we are going to get some more moved tonight. It's been a ride the last couple weeks, with some tough weather but we're trying to save as much as we can. We hoped we would have more time, but didn't turn out that way.
Not a big fan of the pipelines. Not much you can do though except try to get top dollar. It's wonderful to have land in a "utility corridor". Glad you are getting some firewood out of it.
I agree, and I'm not either. This imminent domain is nuts... It's down the road from me, I definitely would not have wanted it going through my land.
