Didn't get nearly as much accomplished on the wood pile as I had hoped for. Too much other random stuff to get done and a good amount of family time. Started with about 1/3 cord from an across the street tree service scrounge from my neighbor. Looks like maple... which kind... I haven't a clue? My neighbor had intended to keep it himself, but realized he wasn't up to the task. I offered him the splitter, then to split some for him, and finally we agreed on when he needs some, to come on over and get some. Nice guy, very nice to my kids. He was apologetic he couldn't help me load the big stuff, I explained the 30 sec drive was a big help already never mind felled and bucked. The setup, trying to go right into trailer and drive to stacks. The pile of bucked logs is what I hope completes the '16-'17 stack. We'll see, I think its a solid 3 cords, and I have close to 1 stacked already so almost the 4.5 I shoot for yearly. I could really use an outfeed table, if I ever learn how to weld that's one of the first projects. The pup is in the way back gnawing on some kindling. He is very skiddish of engines right now, so he's not much of a worker yet. He's a very dark brown, so can't even see him really. Good news is while stacking very early Sunday morning the bugger came EVERY time I called him! That's rule #1 - come when you are called, almost there. And the other "self dumping" trailer. This thing is terribly balanced, I need to rebuild it but it was free minus the 2" tongue and the tubes in the tires. So 2 little trailers and I got 2 big trailers done... probably a light cord.
Nothing lazy about processing firewood. I do the same. From the splitter into a trailer, then to the stack. Most of the time.
You've got that right papadave. My wife gave me until late afternoon to get stuff done. Loading up that first trailer load took close to an hour as the neighbor and I BS'd while I leisurely loaded. Split a 4'x7' trailer's worth and dropped it off. Mulched the garden, too many weeds and I don't like weeding. Spit the little trailer's load and it promptly tipped up while just about full (resting the tongue on a round, not tractor). So I said the hell with it and kept splitting. Then it was pool time with the kid and off to dinner. Just couldn't kick it into high gear, but sometimes that's okay.
"Looks like maple... which kind... I haven't a clue?" ... looks like purebtustackus maple right there... Good lookin loads cnice, nuthin better... well, maybe that jump in the pool later... Oh... and about the high gear thing... pfftttttttt.... what's that? ...
Looks like a soft maple you have. Good wood but not the best for overnight fires as other wood will hold the fire longer. But it is still great firewood. Gives good heat and even gives you a good coal bed.
