^^ This ^^ I like pine in deep winter. I light at 5:00 in the morning, and then let it burn out as we leave the house for the day. About 12 hours later, the house is cool (mid-low 60s) when I get home, and I light another fire for the evening. I like pine best for both of these, as it gets the house warm fast. After the house is warm, I will put some douglas fir or larch on over the pine coals to keep it going. So, though many talk of pine as being a "shoulder season" wood, I really like it in the cold of winter as well.
