Will they still offer the straight-cat version as well? Any other changes besides the hybrid innards...styling changes, etc? Got a link to more info? I haven't looked at the blog or anything lately..

 

On the contrary, I'd think a Woodstock would be snapped up quicker out there. You are getting it at used price, with no shipping charges. This is a quality-crafted item we're talking about, not a slapped-together sheet-metal job like you'd find out there.
As far as burn time, what you see on their site is a bit conservative, if anything. Burned low, then idling for hours on a load of coals with the air cut back, the thing will still be warm to the touch at 24 hrs. For me, that was on some White Oak or other high-ouput wood. Still, it's going to impress you with how long it will produce enough heat out of that little 1.8 cu.ft. box, when it's mild out. If you can still get it, that is. Make your move!

If I had a few more pictures, like in through the door, showing the combustor scoop (might be the old cast iron) and also showing the bypass frame, it should be evident it it's been overfired. Some pics with the top up would help, although you can really see the bypass frame well..blocked by the bypass door. If I had those pics, I might buy it sight-unseen. Or at least I'd put a deposit on it, if the seller seemed legit. It's that good a stove..

 

It’s hard to explain how some winter temps can have big swing here. Can be freezing in the morning then gets up to 60 or so on a day. Not expecting it but truly want to just keep that in mind as it occurs more often than long freezes. My last stove was a Timberwolf 1400 and had the similar firebox size but what was nice is if the fire burned out it made it great to cool off the house instead of enduring temps that rise a bit more than. But hey I’m willing to take a bet on this....

 

Yeah, my BIL/family live on Whidbey Island, and we hear plenty of stories. Are you on the coast, inland, or where? Wife's cousin is in Spokane..plenty more stories from there.

I get it about the climate being not the best for a big Cat stove, but I'd offer $1700 which is what WS would sell you a refurb for if they had any.

I wouldn't buy any story about a dozen burns.. but there isn't much if anything to go wrong with them, unless there is any visible warping from an overfire. A new cat is a few hundred bucks which it might need, assume it does. You can always paint the frame and new color you want if you don't like the copper color. I kind of like it, but I like my charcoal one too.

Unfortunately this has come to a close unless I hear from the seller again, not budging much off the starting price. Wise enough that the stove is a good one but it’s hard to substantiate a stove being that old when a new one from Woodstock can be acquired. Different model though. Since things are changing over there, some things you’re gonna let go. I did offer him a solid number, just nothing happening on the other end. I’d rather be patient than gullible.

 

Yeah let him sit and wait a while...if he doesn't sell it the price will eventually come down.
