My son and I made it down to lock 27 "lusks" and to lock 28, whats left of it, lock 26 on the other hand has proved to be a challenge to find, i think mostly because someone built a house just north of where the lock should be and must be on his property, the way i wanted to go to get to it was posted no trespassing, we found a pull off on the road above with a sign as if it was a parking spot to access lock 26, so we parked there and walked and walked and walked, after going both upstream and downstream a long ways we never found it on the first try, so we took a break back at the car for a little chow and try to figure out which way to locate it, we figured down stream and went again much further and then ran into more no trespassing signs, what a let down, may have to canoe down the river to see this one, here's a couple pics of lock 27 and 28.............yeah, that's my son giving his salute!!....... IMAG0064.JPG IMAG0063.JPG IMAG0065.JPG IMAG0066.JPG IMAG0071.JPG IMAG0069.JPG

Some great old US stuff in here, and I love it, especially those old train tunnels/steel coke thingys....! BUT, I go to Germany 4 or 5 times a year for work, and they laugh at us when it comes to "history". We don't even have any history as far as they are concerned. Our "old" stuff is 100 or maybe 200 years old, there "old" stuff is 1000 - 2000 years old. I was in a castle last month for dinner, and it was built 850 ad. THAT is old! ;)

Here's a pic I took of the towpath of the P&O Canal in an area that was bypassed when the trolley line was put in after the canal operations seized, this is an area of the canal that most people don't know is still there, it wasn't until this last summer that I found about this on my own while researching other stuff and happened on to it, I found the area this last fall, but it was after one of the few snowfalls that we had this winter in February that in this area it really showed the towpath, still need to climb down the hill and walk it further up into the woods in the very near future...... old 040 with all those coke ovens and old iron furnaces in the area do you find furnace slag?
We find pieces of black glass here all the time, they used the furnace slag piles as road bed fill.
Had a rock hound guy walking the creek here think he hit a payday with Obsidian - hated to rain on his parade that it was just furnace glass

Well, I did locate lock 26 early this morning, was quite a hike down (and back up) a steep hillside to reach it, but well worth it, what impressed me the most was the remnants of the dam that was used at this lock to build a slack-water, the lock itself is not in that great of shape anymore, but seeing the dam timbers still in the water after 170 years of water flowing over them is impressive, yep, I had to touch one!, also it showed me just how big these dams were, I would have never guessed until seeing this dam this morning, and a beautiful morning it was!...except the hike back up the hill!!......:D IMAG0166.JPG IMAG0186.JPG IMAG0189.JPG IMAG0191.JPG IMAG0192.JPG IMAG0193.JPG
