I didn't wake up today thinking I was going to buy a couple more saws, but stuff happens. Tomorrow I am making the exchange-- getting Poulan Pro PP4620AVX and a Countervibe 3400 for $75 from a co-worker's boyfriend.
If that 3400 is a strong runner,you'll like it.I haven't seen any newer 290 farm boss or 455 rancher that will out cut it.Parts are starting to get scarce, in 2011 I bought another one strong mechanically but not as nice appearance wise to have as a parts source in the future. Dad's old one (mine since 2011) is still a 56cc beast,runs like new since bringing it out of retirement & rebuilding the carb,new fuel lines etc.Will pull 20" full comp chain buried all day long.
Both are great saws for that price! That 3400 should really turn your head! On party with your Stihl 034. Some would prefer the Poulan over the Stihl. Great saws! Congrats!
The only thing that has me concerned is I don't believe it has a chain brake, can one be added using aftermarket parts or something?
Nope.The 3400 was made between 1979 & 1984,mine is a 1981.Just has a handguard,that's all it ever had.Over half of my saws don't have chainbrakes,just something I'm used to.
I ran a 3400 from 1989 to 2001, it was still running strong when I sold it a couple years ago. damm good saw!
That 3400 alone is worth $75 easily if its a runner.I seen them normally go for $100 up to 200 if its extra nice.
They are mine now. Will try to get a pic tomorrow in the daylight, or maybe I will wait until I get them cleaned up. Haven't had a chance to fire either of them up.
There is a 3400 for $30 about 20miles from me. Not the series I am interested in so have at it. Looks pretty nice. The 4620 and 3400 are 2 different bar mounts and 2 different chains.
Id grab that poulan for $30 Cut!!! Well thats me saying I would grab it not me telling you to grab it.
The Canadian versions of these saws all came with chain brakes. Also the Poulan Pro 395 came with a chain brake and it should fit the 3400. The color will be different because the Poulan Pro saws were yellow. Now with that said I really do not like these saws with a brake. They do not clear noodles as well and it adds quite a bit of weight to the saw. I really like this series of Poulans and are sometimes referred to as the counter vibe. The picture in my avatar is a Craftsman rebranded Poulan countervibe. I did a Muff Modd on it.
The 4620 are not bad saws either for 46 cc. I believe the PP 295 was an earlier version of this saw. I have a couple of these saws and always carry one in my truck tool box in case I get one of those calls from an inlaw that has a limb that has come off and needs cleaned up. The one I have I muff modded. $75 dollars for both saws is a great deal.
