As for the Hercules advert claiming it beats DeWalt is misleading at best and maybe illegal under truth in advertising. AvE took the Hercules 20V drill driver apart and basically said it was crap. The video below for your enjoyment.

 

I would still like to see an AvE type tear-down of one of these saws; inspection of the pistons, bearings, etc. to get a real idea. I wonder if AvE is interested? Is it just slave labour and no environmental protections and no health laws that they can make them so cheap or is it that they are basically cheap where the inners are concern. Would I buy one? Probably. I can not afford $500 to $600 and up saw and if I needed a saw to cut firewood then it is going to have to be a Chinese build.

 

AvE makes a point though in this video. Cheap throwaway tools can end up driving high quality tool makers out of business. And, throwaway tools actually cost us environmentally because of the pollution for these cheaper throwaway tools; we tend to look only at the end product and not think about all the processes involved. So the more cheap tools made and thrown away, the more of the cost we paid environmentally.

 

Technically no breaker bar should have a 6ft pipe put on it and no manufacturer would warranty it if they knew that's what you did. Does it happen yes , do they replace them, yes. They want to keep a good name so they do it. And i promise you the tool trucks make enough to do it. The stuff I have had from HF and tore up they replace it no questions. I like about 10 years ago when they went to lifetime hand tool warrenty. I evendors took back a dead blow that the placid face came off of. But I was beating the end of a bolt on something for some reason so it just cut it out. They said ok go get another one and that was all.

 

I get his point and others. But for me that does my own work on something and have a moderate but bugeted income, I can't afford a $100 breaker bar and a $150 set of box end wrenches, so I go to HF and buy the $10 and $20 versions. There basically just as good, saved me literally thousands of dollars of shop labor over the years and I have yet to snap a cheap wrench I have and I hAve about 3 different chineese sets. Even putting a wrench on top of another wrench to get more torque. I don't do this for a living, but honestly after useing the ones I have I would not think twice useing them. If I wear a set out after 2 or 3 years I would buy another set. $20 every few years to 5 years is more easily affordable that the $100+ at once.

 

If you only use the tools occasionally , you don't need the same quality as if you use them everyday .
At Harbor Freight you have to be selective on what tools you buy there , all the HF stuff I have does what I need it to do

 

Yes, same here for me. My BIL has all top quality tools in his shop; he restores Camaros and other muscle cars for clients. When I replaced the transmission on my car; I borrowed a 16 mm flare nut spanner from him that he said was from a $50.00 set; it was a Snap On. No way that I can afford that so I buy the cheaper tools.

 

A $50 set of snap on wrenches must have been bought in the 70s or either is part of like a 2 wrench set! Haha

He handed me two just in case. I was unsure of the size. It could have been $50.00 each for all I know. I must say, the finish was really nice on them and they fit perfectly. I did not want such expensive tools in the shed since I could not shut the shed; we should have made the shed deeper. So I used them to get the trans out, then took them back, and then when I got to the point of putting the trans back in, went and borrowed again

 

My father in law was a professional master ASC certified mechanic that ownew his own shop. He has a snap on box an out 6 ft tall 2ft deep and 5ft wide...full of Mat Co, Mac, blackhawk, snap on etc. I know my jaw would drop if I knew the total retail value that was in that box

 

Yes, same for my BIL. However, he is running a business so has to have the tools.

The HF electric wood splitter looks just like my SpeeCo. I am real happy with my 5 ton SpeeCo so I have no problem recommending the HF to anyone that wants a small electric wood splitter and the HF price when they put them on offer is fairly good. One thing that has irked me with HF lately is their 20%-25% off one item coupons. They have put so many limitations on them that they are all but worthless; don't expect to save much at all.

 

Here is a question for those that know. I see 80+cc Chinese saws that are fairly cheap. The Beast is 56cc. Are these 80+cc saws comparable to the Stihl and Husky saws of that size?

 

If you think the beast is heavy or even close to it, you don't wanna lug an 80+ cc saw around. They are heavy.

That's the only thing I can personally compare since I've never ran a China boat saw.

 

You will need to find the thread on here where several guys have them. Also some on AS or OPE with them. Ones here that have them are Oldman47 94BULLITT brenndatomu (maybe) Horkn (big maybe???)

 

What 80cc saws are you talking about? The ones in the kits? They are not OEM quality but they are pretty decent. They are a fun project, like a model car for a an adult.

 

Yeah, I have one...I think I mentioned it earlier in this thread. People generally have been prepared to be disappointed by them and were instead somewhat impressed...at least for the price...
I can't speak for durability as I still don't have any real time on it...no wood cutting lately.
