My comments on using used oil; I do worry about the environmental impact. But on a pure financial note, with heating oil at 6:50 a gallon. And the number of guys I know Heating shops with a used motor oil. I almost wonder, if it’s worth selling it to them and buying stain.

my assessor Would not miss a building like that:binoculars:

Here either...they update satellite images of your property each year now...that new roof would guarantee a personal visit...I'm adding 8' onto the back of my garage this summer, I promise you they will see it right away. :emptywallet:

Forgive me Lyle, but how is buying stain any less impactful to the environment. The processes of manufacturing that or any similar product are way dirtier in my opinion.
Not trying to argue, but it’s akin to the electric car vs. gas argument- the “stuff to do the things” has to come from somewhere. :handshake:
Sorry fuelrod - no my details for me. :salute:

Yeah but you have to redo the whole roof and then the extension doesn't show up so fast.

From talking to a buddy that works in GIS it sounds like any change in "footprint/roofline" will trigger an alert...so as long as things work right, they won't miss it.

Probably not, I just don’t know what’s in the new synthetic oil, trying to keep most of stuff out of my water and gardens.

TWP stain I used prep and cleaners said safe. I lost no grass or flowers.

I've used the ''used'' oil from our car, etc, i am very careful how i apply i though. I actually pour some on the wood, then , brush it on and normally its a very hot day when i do it. Careful not to get any on the ground, just the wood in the box of my trailer. Works great and extends the life of the 2x12's in the bottom of the trailer, as a bonus.

I also got my first "store bought"
    lumber for this building.

Those are LVL's that I'll rip in half to make the rolling door frames. They are very stable and warped or twisted lumber is not helpful with the fairly close tolerances that you have with this type of door. (passing over the jamb and adjoining wall to open)

Didn't feel like getting in the slightly muddy footing work so I started on the rolling doors. 20220520_093928.jpg

I'm using LVL's for just the frame and half lapping the corners.

There are 6 panels to build, 2 like this one and the front door under the gable is only 16' wide but 12'6" tall.

    2 more to go. 20220525_082321.jpg
Got the 2 end doors built and ready for siding.

My lumber guy brought the wrong length LVL for the tall front door and I'm waiting for that.
I'm deciding on weather to pay for a short load fee for the concrete footers/posts or find something else to add to make a 5+ yd load. I leaning towards just paying the extra, I don't need another distraction and more prep work.

Will the mill be sitting on the ground? A nice solid surface might be nice…

It's mobile (trailer) and has 6 trailer type Jack's for leveling. I put a good hunk of wood under each one and haven't had any problems. Then there's my various other uses for the building like getting a lot of my crap out of the weather, some stuff in the winter and some during the summer. Hopefully the lean to will handle most of this.
I have no delusions of production sawing, but the mill is definitely something that I'd like to keep under cover along with some snowplows, 8' bush hogs, 8' snowblower, logging winch, SS attachments...... on and on.
I've always said that I'd like to have an acre under roof.:D

Dang it, lost a friend of about 25 years just now.

Wouldn't you know that a replacement blade is the same price as a whole new tape. :loco:

All the base forms are set, the sonotubes cut to elevation, rebar cut and bent. I'll call the concrete plant Tuesday to see about a delivery.
Got tired of readjusting and checking the string line on stakes in my dry and rocky ground.

A little overkill, but you ain't bumping these babies out of place.
Have a good weekend and thank a vet tomorrow.

I'll give them a couple of weeks to cure. Meanwhile get back to the doors.

I decided to get a little creative with the doors. These are going to be live edge battens, I'll do the side that you need to walk around the building to see first . I'm going for a little "ode to the tree" look and I have a picture of what I'm looking for in mind, just not sure if I can pull it off.
