I got clear panels in horse barn 13 years old from Lowe’s. I bought best grade as it’s a roof. No issues yet..
I've got some about 3-4 years old in pretty much all day sun without any problems or changes in color or light transmission. Fingers crossed. I didn't know that they call for a fastener (overgrown roofing screw) with a 3/4" head diameter and pre drilling panels over 10' long. I can see that being a good idea. This is out of their catalog. I did my weekly visit to mom today as it rained again last night (wet roof) and they were calling for gusty wind today. She's got dimensia but no problems recognizing me, yet. Not sure if that's coming, but she'll be 94 in December. I'll get back on it tomorrow, they're talking about several rainy days starting around Tuesday next week.
This reinforces my suggestion as they state a "limited lifetime" warranty. It may be as simple as they had a bad batch lacking the UV stabilizer and replace the material. Usually the labor is on you. I guess that producing some receipt or proof of purchase may be the hardest part.
In my case, receipt was no problem. We did the replacement once and a couple years later, same results. So I do not plan to keep up the cycle.
I have twinwall polycarb on my greenhouse and after ten years it started to chip and crack. It had a UV film that actually stood up well. Plastic's nice but it doesn't like to bake in the sun. <my opinion>
I have clear panels in my shop two of the panels are original going on 21 years I had to replace 2 about 10 years ago they did not like bee spray (Hornets nest) it cracked them they have gotten cloudy the one thing I do not like is they make the shop hot in the summer the light is nice but I am replacing the whole roof next year (Addition to the shop ) and I am removing them because it will make the shop air conditioner work better . Also best wishes to your mom JB
Uh oh From the ground it looks like most of it was melted this afternoon when the sun went down behind the trees. Seemed like about 3pm . Got a chance to do a little cleanup and other preparations for snow plowing this area. Won't be long.
Can't beat momma nature.. Be careful if/when you go up there. As I'm sure you know, that snow/melted/frozen/unfrozen/wet $h!t can be tricky.
Yep that is slippery I know from experience those little screw heads are not much to hold on to lucky for me there was only a 8 ft drop off JB
Been there, done that. Unfortunately. I was a bit younger so it was a tuck and roll situation. Lucky indeed!
My low pitch is easy, but on most of my projects the pitch is 6/12 or steeper. Don't think that I haven't pondered what would be worse, leaving little chunks of my arse on every little screw head that I was sliding across, or the eventual landing. I should have the ridge cap done in short order tomorrow if there's no frost or something else to distract me. Then I've got to drop some big hemlock. Anytime now the woods could become difficult with snow.
Well I was younger by 5 years but it was not pretty !! it was more of a big thud and a hell of a lot of expletives and a lot of loud grunts and groans to get up JB
Well the arm flapping does not work and it would probably leave interesting scars that most people would not want to see !! your project really looks good JB
The roof is working I'm now blowing the leaves out and cleaning up the inside so that I can have a little more room inside to work.
