Well, I couldn't wait. I started my new job two days a week and am going full time this summer with a 52 mile commute each way. I picked up a 2014 Nissan Versa Note. 31mpg city, 40 highway, 35 combined.

Among cheap 2014 gas engine non hybrid cars, that's about as good as it gets.

its physics, "mass and momentum" a heavier truck like the 350 would have much more mass and therefore more momentum a lighter car would "change directions" faster than the heavier truck so the truck would "drive deeper" before the inertia was stopped

Guess things haven't gotten much better mpg wise lately, my 01 civic did 39-40 combined. And that was with normal to aggressive driving.

    Congrats on there car.

No , your right mike they have gotten worse. Those 90s-00s civics got 45mpg with a stick. Now they dont come close to that if I remember last I checked. 37 or so maybe??

    39.

We test drove a Civic too. I love Hondas but the deciding factor was interior room. I don't know the physics behind it but somehow this tiny Versa Note has more back seat leg room than our Ford Expedition. I'm 6'2" and I can ride comfortably in the back seat.

This car has a CVT transmission. Takes some getting used to but it certainly seems to work for fuel mileage. Driven carefully I can get 44mpg on the highway fairly easily.

Yep many times the small cars have more leg room. We have an 01 toy highlander as the family car. It seems to have more room or as much in the back as our friends tahoe. Some cars have tons of room as well. I also am 6'2".

My aunt has a bmw 500 class something car. I can cross my legs in the back seat. You can sit someone in the floor board back there.

I've been looking at the Fiat Abarth. Wife has a Mini Cooper and I have the F150. Both are paid off. The F150 I bought new back in 2003 and still only has 53k miles on it.

I'm looking for something small, light, and fun to drive and use the F150 more as a winter car and general hauler.

Ok, so you might not want to do this but...

My FIL is in town and mentioned a pic he had seen of a smart car in an accident. And how little of it was left. He couldn't find the pic on his fb feed. So I googled "smart car accident" and clicked on images... The fifth or sixth pic is kind of gruesome. You probably don't want to see it. But if you do make sure there isn't any kids around. They won't sleep well after seeing it for a while.

My wife has a Mini, actually. Automatic with optional paddle shift. It was her choice for the automatic since it's her daily driver.

I love it. It's like an adult version of a go-cart. It's a lot of fun going from the truck to the Mini and then back again.

The Fiat Abarth is lighter, with a much lower MSRP. For a few grand more you can get some aftermarket upgrades to get it into the 220-250 hp range. In the end, it would be about 10 grand less, with better power to weight ratio than the Mini Cooper John Cooper Works model.
