More training will generally make anyone a better driver. I think the amount of training new drivers are required to receive is laughable.

A NHTSA study indicated that in auto/motorcycle accidents, the auto driver was more at fault 80% of the time.

It is unlikely that I would get one of those regardless of the mileage or price. Doesn't appear that very much firewood could fit in the backseat.

I wouldn't get so excited about this thing… 2015 is a loooong way off. So many factors could derail this effort… just think of all the promises made by DeLorean, Fisker and others too numerous to mention.

I don't really care if it has a timing chain or a belt as long asi t isn't an interference engine.
I'd still have a motorcycle if I couldn't stand riding in the cold and/or rain.
I sold my last bike right after I watched a riding buddy jump out over the double yellow to pass somebody and went head on....
This vehicle I find interesting as hell though.

Sorry to hear that Bill. I sold my last bike before I could hurt myself. My family would be fine if I was killed riding, but if I was seriously injured we would have been sunk. I just couldn't justify it any more.

But this "car" is a heckuva lot safer than a bike, even if its no safer than any other subcompact.

    Long time ago.
I didn't actually watch it happen.
One second he was there with us, the next he wasn't.
Just heard the screeching of multiple car brakes/tires skidding.
Someone can be gone in an instant.
Mangled metal and a body on the sidewalk is something you never forget though.
You appreciate a warm fire and breathing friends, with/without faults.

Drives me nuts watching all of the big car companies, 30 years later, unable to create a high mileage car for those who want it. In the late 80s, I drove a friend's Geo Metro from Horseheads NY to Bangor, Me… mileage ? 67 miles per gallon… no kidding. And I was going 70 MPH all the way home.

That 3 wheel rig is very cool and yeah, it does look a lot like the Spyder. Better looking than a Geo that's for sure… ;)

67 MPG is impressive! Of course I think the safety will be better in the Elio.. The Metro was a 3 cylinder car too right?

Dunno… it started, went down the road good and cost 1/3 of what my pick-up did at the pump… I remember that part !

Wow what motor was in that? Both my buddies got around 50mpg out of theirs! Was it the 1L?

Yep. The first motor in the Elio Motors mule (hand built pre-production model) was a 3 cyl Metro motor and trans. That's one of the reasons they know this mpg claim can be accomplished.

I don't know what the motor was… but the owner was a Prof Gadget guy (engineer at GE in Bangor) who was always whipping up "stuff". He never said he'd done anything special to the Geo, but he was very proud of the mileage it got.

I've heard others say this sort of thing but have to say I've never bought a car figuring what it would be like in an accident. That seems like backward thinking or fear thinking. Ya, accidents do happen but I'll be danged if I will live my life thinking about an accident.

Your F350 would crumple like a tuna can if you hit an 80K lb. truck I hate to tell you!.. Many pick up trucks do very badly in corner collisions as well.. Being heavier doesn't necessarily make you "safe"..
