I never mentioned squish being .035". The saw with the spacer was .021" and stock with gasket was .027".
You are correct Mike you did not mention 0.035, I must have gotten that from another thread. My mistake! So did you just use custom spacer and 1194 or a gasket to get to 0.021?
The fiber ones or the metalized gaskets? I also noticed that the spacer looked to be from 110 annealed copper shim stock.
It was one of each. What I had on hand. I used carbon sheet metal. I cut one out of flashing also for .007" but didn't need it after all.
First one to figure this out was Ed Heard EHP IMO. He drilled bigger holes across. Others followed suit after that. I'll try and dig up the EHP muffler from 07-08 time frame.
Could you just cut the squish band instead of using the spacer? Or would that put your ports too low?
There was some reasoning behind the spacer... And it did have to do with the port timing and returning to stock if need be..
You could but that would take a whole lot more grinding to get it to fit. This way didn't change port timing hardly any except intake.
If you put enough thought into achieving something, there is ALWAYS a simpler way to achieve the end goal. In this case it was more performance with little or no costly risk. Says a WHOLE bunch for Mike's talent and knowledge. Mike has one, and even Evans said there is more to be had from a Solo 665 but chose not to do it!
I haven't ruled out working on my 665. Just not sure I want to do it to it when I have a 7900 on the way.
