I'm on my second bag, not even sure who made it as it was a gift from my FIL, but it's lasted for many years now. That being said, I really like it because it doesn't have the "boxed" ends, it's basically just a big flap of canvas with handles....
You really should contact Bean, they love stories like that. I bought a LL Bean firewood bag ten or twelve years ago made of cordura. It still looks like new. Estimate it's brought in about 40 cord over the years. What I like about my bag is the flat bottom, makes it easy to load up. Its looks similar to the bag on the left on stuckinthemuck's post. You got full use out of that bag for sure!
NEW BAG Haven’t thrown the old one out. Although the second handle broke on Friday while I was reloading before the storm I did make contact with LLB before pulling the trigger on this one. Service rep was happy to hear a positive story and thanked me for sharing. She invited me to share it in a review. But since they no longer carry that model, I couldn’t. She didn’t offer more and I didn’t ask So far, it seems to do the trick. It’s bigger than the last and carries a lot more. That’s a big plus. And as you can see, the wood burns just as well as if I had used the old bag. I’m not confident that it will be a 60 cord bag. Time will and cord will tell. Duratough Standing Log Carrier, Bark
Oh boy! I'm sure I won't get 60 cords out of this canvas bag. HOWEVER, I would never willingly go back to a bag without a shoulder strap. What do you folks think? Am I the odd man out? Or? And this bag came from Amazon - HERE IS THE LINK just in case you're curious. Also - It did NOT come with the shoulder strap, but does have the D-Rings to attach your own, and I've since padded the part that rests on my shoulder.
I have the same exact LL Bean bag. It has served us well. I may have started using it 5 yrs ago, so might be closer to the 15-20 cord mark.
A sad day I had one do the same thing a couple years ago. I fashioned a rope handle to finish out the season and then threw it out. My wife had gotten me a new one several years ago that I had refused to use till I needed it so it became the replacement. Not sure where she got it, but nothing special.....yet. They are almost like a favorite shirt. Doesn’t matter that it’s faded with ragged edges and patches all over it.....it’s your wood tote! My vote is for sewing an old pice of nylon webbing on to replace the handle
Being a person who sews and collects odd bits of fabric, I would have sorted through my collection of tent canvas, denim, twill, wind sock, upholstery fabric, sails and sail cover material until I would have found something that would work to repair it. I just stored away half of an old RV cover that the front had rotten away in the sun. Plenty of straps and zippers to salvage from it if I need to. Did I ever mention that I am a fabric hoarder?
I find with 4-5 splits in my wood bag, that it's plenty heavy for me. I've never tried a larger one with a shoulder strap. Someday. But, I'm not using it to move wood any further than 20ft.
C'mon Woodwidow this is a hoarding forum...admit it, you have a hoarding problem! Its okay though you're among friends!
My brother in law was a pilot, and when he attended pilot refresher courses, they gave out materials in canvas bags. He gave me this bag that he cut the sides off of to turn it into a carrier, just for carrying wood splits. Can't beat the price, and it works like a charm. Although I did lay the bag too close to my ash rake and it partially melted one of the straps. Canvas bags are readily available from almost anywhere.
