I got a 99 F-350 powerstroke. Darn thing has less than 100k on it. It will probably rust apart before the motor dies. I run the crap out of it once in a while to keep it motivated. I work the dog chit out of it when i do need it though.
Up in state college at a golf outing. She's Purdy and she just rips.. I'm gonna keep her.. full delete next week...
If it wasn't for the golden age of diesel pickups (2001-2007 give or take) there wouldn't be such a big gap in the performance of diesel engines vs. gas in light duty trucks. That brief period where mfgs were able to crank out 400+ hp motors making well over 700 lb ft of torque with relatively few emissions restrictions is what signed the golden ticket for diesel trucks. They made a ton of money off the things (lets face it, the trucks are made out of recycled beer cans with interiors that were slightly superior to the Fisher Price stuff in the late 90's, but the powertrains were awesome!) and put a ton of R&D into what was selling the best. The Triton V10's were pretty much a fleet only motor for cube vans and the best friggin gas engine GM ever bolted to frame rails (8.1L) died a premature death in '08 (IMO) because of it's poor fuel economy. Little did everybody know that the next generation of diesels were thirsty! Plus, raising the cab for all but minor service work puts repairs to their vehicles out of range for the vast majority of DIY'ers, increasing cost of ownership even further. There are many components on the diesel trucks that are superior (and add to that sticker price) to a comparable gas version. They often get bigger/better brakes, axles, transmissions and suspension components in anticipation that they will see heavier loads.
I got some good buddies from Delta. The company that owns that owns the company I work for. Bought 25 minutes or so from me.
Well everything showed up yesterday. Got a 4" pipe back to the factory muffler and tip, an sct tuner, and egr plates with a probe rather than a full egr delete for now. Have some very experienced help coming over 2 Saturdays from now to get this done. On my lowest tune I should be around 425/850 with minimal smoke if any. My tow tune will be around 460/875 so we'll see how that does. I'll never run a higher tune than that. Talked to 3 people now with similar deletes and they all said their only regret was not doing it sooner. We'll see..lol..
I used to drive a 97 at work back in 99 through 02. It finally died in 07 with almost 600k and it probably 100 different drivers. In my opinion, that's up there on the totem pole with the best diesels ever built for class 8 trucks..
