600 isn't bad on the street. 800 is a little harder to drive. 1k is impossible to drive in the rain. I daily drive that truck I showed pulling. It might have been a year old then.

Before you spend the bucks on pipe, chit can the muffler, all together. See what that does for you on the cheap, ya gotta have a little Pennsltucky hillbilly in ya!
It used to be (in the 90's & early 00's) that you could unbolt the factory pipe under the cab, get a "long sweep 90*" elecrtical conduit and just turn it out before the rear tire. I did this on my 7.3' "back then", still run 2 of em & the turbo just sings away even at low rpm's and esp. coming off throttle. It may just be the same effect as when I was a kid with clothes pins & playing card's on my bicycle spokes - all "mental power" but I still leave my rear passenger side window down about 4" to hear my "happy place" melody.

That's what I'm gonna do. I just have to keep the factory stuff usable in case it has to be returned to stock so I can't cut that up. It's a really quick install too. All I have to do is unbolt the back section from the spacer pipe and bolt the muffler free one on.. 1442316385666.jpg

Back in the day, it got to be almost like nails on a chalkboard to me. Some were worse than others, but I drove an Autocar with a 3406 for a couple years that was especially whiny. And anything with shiny chrome air cleaners outside the windows made me crazy.

Can hardly hear a turbo whine anymore. And prolly my hearing isn't what it used to be. Not that I'm complaining.

I saw/heard a straight piped 6.7 a while back. I like turbo music as much as the next guy, but this was too much. I don't know if the turbo/wastegate was stock though...wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't.

Tractor mufflers on 7.3's and 5.9's are pretty common around here.

Heard a straight pipes 6.0 today at idle. Dont think it was a 7.3 but I paid no attention to the year of the truck?

The turbo on a 6.0 sounds pretty good, IMO. That's about the only good thing about it, though.

I have a 7.3 and installed a 4" exhaust with the straight through "big truck" muffler. I tow and it droned so I added a resonator ahead of the muffler. Much better. Daily driven and tow trucks are miserable with a droney exhaust system. Will be towing an 8000# RV for 4 hours tomorrow over four separate mountain passes.

Mine has the factory muffler on a really mild tune and it's pretty quiet. I've been told that with deleted 6.7's the tune makes a big difference in sound with or without a muffler. It's a waste but for 200$ I'm gonna get a dpf back with no muffler to see how it sounds. Easy to sell if I don't like it..
