Mine was not a CM. I have too many saws, and I have a used 2252 on the way and a 2152/2153 project I will be working on soon, so the 261 had to go!
The 555/562 debate..... If you are going to send the saw out for port work eventually, you could save a few $$ going with the 555. (You would be about 1/3 of the way to a nice port job) But if your intent is to run it stock or with a muffler mod, I would recommend the 562.
I never felt the need to port my 562. The 357xp needed porting to run with the 562, but now the 357 is faster/stronger.
What...?? A ported saw is the answer here.. A 12lb 261c pushing close to 5hp is indeed tough to mess with...
That's the problem I'm afraid your running into. Maybe the powerbands will be different enough that it would make since. Besides being able to oil a longer bar what are you gaining?
Good point there my friend. 18" is about all that the 261 oil efficiently.. Wouldn't go 3/8 beyond 16" myself but opinions may vary on this
To be honest this is a question I've been mulling over for a long time....tough to put a proven and trusty saw down for minimal gains. Keep in mind the money involved.
I've had this pondering myself but from the other side 562vs440. I'm just gonna wait to see the 572. But I'll be an old man by the time I'd does the way it's lookin.
Well a stock 562 will smoke a ported 50cc saw in larger wood. Yes I've run 261s' & 550s' & 346s'. It as more to do with the longer stroke than the larger bore. More torque. If ya want to really stretch the gap then yes a ported 562 will do that too.
See this where i'm conflicted. I have plenty of hardwoods i can tackle that are mostly under 22" around here. The 261c handles this very nicely, limbing and blocking. Now a 562xp could "up" this workable size tree a good bit but I don't come across much over 24" at least in a hardwood that I would use for firewood. So i guess i answered my own question its a want but not much of a need i guess.
