Naw..its actually not holding idle. I got to get into it as soon as i get a chance. Im gonna swap carbs from my other xp and see if that eliminates it. If not then ill look for leaks. Stuff happens. Still love the saw. Can't let anybody run it though.
Hate to hear that. Didn't use it much, but always ran good for me. Maybe if the carb doesn't sort out, check the cylinder bolts and sealant on the base? Hope it gets sorted out, let me know if I can be of assistance..
Many thanks to Certified and HoneyFuzz for offering to take the 550 off my hands. This weekend I ran it with a Stihl RS chain and it was cutting like it should. The chain that it replaced was a Carlton full chisel, it wasn't right from the start. I have around 8 tanks through it now and things are great. It is good on fuel, cuts great, feels like it fits and it has a different sound to it that I like. When i track down ethanol free fuel i will mix my own, till then i am running the premix from Jonsered. Not sure if it is the premix or the saw but there is no fumes and 2 stroke smell. All is good. A sincere thank you to everyone that offered suggestions and tips. There are forums that I am on for other interest of mine and there is NOT the same respect and helpfulness as there is here. It is sincerely appreciated.
Glad you have it sorted out. Carlton makes decent chain, but needs to be filed a little differently. Their 'chisel' does not have a square corner like the Stihl RS or Oregon LGX. The biggest problem (at least from my own experience), is that the tooth height is short, which changes the profile of the face of the cutter. In turn, it doesn't feed nearly as aggressively as the Stihl or the Oregon.
Also glad to hear that the 550 is doing well now . I used only Carlton chain for years...I loved how there chain cut when filed right . Then I got on here....and Stihl RS and Oregon LGX was recomended . Lets just say I took the advice..and havent felt sad for leaving poor Carton behind !!
Awesome!! Glad to hear you have the issues figured out and like it now! You had me second guessing myself for wanting one for a bit.
