Dropped 4 birch today. Limbed & burned as I went. Was finishing up in some tall grass, saw sparks off the chain. What a difference a sharp chain makes . Any way I finished up, picked & burned brush. Will sharpen & buck it up tomorrow if the ground freezes up again. Up to 40°, sunny & the ground was getting wet, wind picked up, time to call it a day.
I guess it's still wet enough to not be concerned with the fire spreading? I just leave the tops in the woods for the deer and other wildlife to use. Guess I'm still a little gun shy after the little fire episode last year at the next door neighbors........that started spreading to my woodline.
Working on ice, frozen ground & some standing water later in the day Neighbor burned down the tall dry grass yesterday. Had to use a weed burner to keep it going. We feel pretty safe that it won't spread, & now the wind died down.
I love cutting and burning the branches right there on the spot !! Its like you did your job...and you can hardly tell you were there !! Nice pics !
It's nice when they burn, I had to wait a few days with our maple before I could get them to go without a ton of liquid accelerant.
+1 A fire always good when I'm outside, just feels good. Keeps the floor clean of trip hazards too Water was dripping & hissing out the cut ends
Magnet measuring rod performed well 25°, ground frozen good & hard, sunny. Nice day to get some wood in.
16° this AM, Heavy frost Not sure if the saw wants to work in theses temps. Need to find the winter air flow instructions Need to do a gas run, maybe after the sun is up for a while it'll warm up a bit, might have some heat in it.
Got up to 25°, so there's a little heat in the sun. Opened the port for heat off the head , winter operation of the saw. Ran fine after it warmed up . Dropped a couple more, Magnetic measuring rod working great, left it on & walked down the limbs that were off the ground in the pic.
