Yep bought the saw brand new almost a year ago. Maybe 10 tanks through it. Not a ton of use.

Ok. Just wanted to make sure. Seen an aftermarket top end have plating flake and it wouldn't hold a tune. Have you taken the carb apart and checked metering lever height?

This was the best run this afternoon. Still on the unlimited after market coil.
Notice the idle out of the cut, then the idle after I cleared it.

L 1 turn, H 1 5/8 turn, the T screw (what I called LI earlier) almost has the throttle cam sitting on the threads, barely on the ramp of the screw. 4AE9D12B-A6D0-433E-A300-BE52D8BFF0E1.jpeg
I checked and had 153 psi compression cold.

It sounds pretty rich on H but shouldn't be enough to load it up like that. Maybe lean the H out a little and richer the L if it doesn't make it sluggish.

Just getting up there in R’s it seemed on the high end I thought in the 13,300 neighborhood? I know you said stay under 13,5 but I’m getting a bit worried or shouldn’t I be? I’ve got 40:1 in it now too.

13.3-13.5k should be fine. That could be your problem.

To rich on the high end? Then slamming the throttle closed at the end of a cut the fuel that’s blasting in has no were to go and causes an instant rich stall? Makes sense... if I’m trying to keep it from stalling and tickle the throttle I can usually save it.

I’m not 1/1000th the saw guy Mike is, but the symptoms you describe, if someone came into the bike shop describing them, I’d think float bowl level. So maybe something to the metering lever height?

That right there is spot on. The chamber, plug, and case are too rich for an instant idle.

The added heat from milling is probably burning the added fuel. You might notice it at 1/4 or 1/2 turn richer. I see it on most saws when I do a rebuild, as I always start rich and work my way up to a good tune

Could some of my trouble be due to things finally breaking in?

A slight tear in the fuel line where it passes through the floor plate can happen on these saws. That will mess up your tune for sure. Being used that little I doubt there's a problem with seals or anything like that.

I have a good limited coil you can try if you want to. Where in NY are you located?

Was it running fine before you started messing with it?
