    That aside, this thread is making me look forward even more to the OEM 7900 top end I ordered for my 6401.

    I put a OEM top end on mine several years ago. It was a straight forward affair. The Dolmar started right up and has run perfect ever since.

    Good. I'm not the only one.

    Mine did the same. I didn't even touch the carb until the weather warmed up.

    I have to agree that 28" seems about perfect for this saw. Powerwise, I'd run a 36" occasionally, if I had to, but oiling is the limiting factor. I would look at something else if I had to run a big one all the time, and it wouldn't be a 372.

    I have 2 7900's and one is 100% stock and it is a very powerful saw,In fact it is the only stock saw I own and it will stay that way.
