I think diversity is the name of the game. Some at home, some in the bank. Just like we diversify with our investments. Lately, I’ve been thinking more about diversity it terms of income streams. Real estate, side gig, etc. some day, when I retire, I think I’ll still want something to do on my terms, so just trying to find something that can keep me busy and earn me income as well.

We tried doing the whole off grid type thing years ago. We love it but we do so much stuff that it made it harder. We used labterns, milked our cow by hand until I made a milker, split wood by hand, no real tools......what a pain. We got new 800 amp power plowed in for free (heck of a story there) and now I'm trying to get the 40x80 shed turned into a workshop. Still using a 200 amp meter, but the 800 amps is on tap if we need it.
