Dont let this discourage you 22 is a great round and a really good caliber to get started in. Im guessing your just getting started into the wonderful world of firearms? These things happen something happens people go crazy prices go up then things calm down and the dust settles. Check around your area and see what kind of ammo is available right now and what the prices are that should give you an idea of whats happening in your area. Also I would recommend checking out several of the online ammo sales sites. www.cheaperthandirt.com www.luckygunner.com www.bulkammo.com and www.ammunitiondepot.com are a few that are out there. 22 is coming back some areas its slower than others the biggest ripoffs Ive seen lately have been at gun shows people selling surplus 22 for $80-100 for a brick Just keep shopping around and youll find what you want.
I think all us FHC members should strongly encourage this hobby. I'll start by offering to send you a 50 round box of good CCI .22lr ammo. If 9 others join me, you'll have 500 rounds to start and no excuse not to enter the wild wild world of shooting.
22 ammo is not cheap anymore!!! I like a ruger. I have a 22/45 on the mark 3 platform. This gun thing is catching on I see
22 ammo has been impossible to find since the new town deal and been spotty since the Big O was elected!!
The ruger 22/45 I have is a mark 3 action and everything with the bull barrel. Its grip though is the same angle and safety location and mag release of a 1911 therefore the name 22/45. I dont like the grip angle and look of the standard ruger mark/2/3. Browning buck Mark is also a good semi pistol.
Use gunbot for looking foe ammo. Just google out and use the 22lr search. It crawls the net for the cheapest online price. Dont work Griz we will have you owning a dozen guns and reloading in no time
@BrianK that's a very generous offer you made to Adam and I'll join in but it's goi g to be a couple weeks before I'm home again and able to see what I've got in my supply cabinet.
I've got to find a gun first, gun shop in Fairmont is apparently no longer in business. I will check in Algona another day.
Try Budsgunshop.com Great prices but you have to take into mind the shipping and the FFL transfer fee. Last gun I bought was still $50 or so cheaper from buds. Also send them a check dont do the E check thing that took like 7-10 days extra time!!
The E check thing is just using your account number online and telling them to debit. The real way is to get a certified check. It should only take 2 days to get to them in the mail. They wait till the echeck clears before they even process. This takes an additional week!
Ok, BrianK threw out the "50 rnd." box of .22lr, so count me in.......depending. It depends on what you pick up. When you've decided on your new pistol/ revolver, let us know. I'll send some that should work in it. Do me a favor..... Whatever you choose, make sure it fit's your hand. It should feel comfortable to grip. If it feels good, and you can naturally aim it, you're more than half-way there.
With bigger hands take a look at Ruger 22/45 - based loosely on a 1911 frame size. I picked up the 22/45 target model last year ~$260. It cycles everything I've thrown at it - Cheap federal 500 bricks(bought back when they were actually cheap), Wolf, Aquilla, CCI etc. Dropped a decent simmons HG scope on it, It's a fun squirrel slayer.
Thats the gun I have basod. Thats a good price. I got mine new 10 years ago for like $340?? Mine cycles anything..there are lots of duds in the rem golden bullets I have had in the past. Many FTF in the box..5% or better I bet!!
I have a Smith .22, a Beretta .22, and a Walther .22 (P22) and all are great handguns. Also had a Mark II and a Single Six Ruger. Out of all of them? The Walther is my favorite. But also the most picky on ammo. Follow Mdavlee recommendation and you'll be fine with it.
I went through the same thing last fall looking for a .22 semi auto handgun. I settled on a Browning Buck Mark, and it’s easily one of my favorite guns now. Before landing on the Browning, I shot the Ruger SR22, several Ruger Mark 2’s & 3’s and a 22/45, and the Walther P22. To me, the quality of the Ruger Mark 2 and 3 and the Browning Buck Mark was far above the others, as well as the accuracy. Both the Walther and SR22 felt more like toys to me, and I didn’t care for the triggers at all. The Ruger Mark guns have a great history and following, but I don’t care for the odd grip angle which is the same as the German Luger, and while the 22/45 has the same grip angle of the 1911, I didn’t care for the plastic in it. Also, a buddy of mine took one apart once to clean it, and had to call customer service to get help putting it back together. The Mark series pistols aren’t meant to be taken apart apparently!! My Buck Mark is every bit as accurate as the Ruger Mark pistols, and feels better in my hand. It’s much closer to a target pistol than the SR22 and Walther are, which are just plinkers. I’m planning on doing a little squirrel hunting with the Browning this fall, something I’d never attempt with the other 2.
