640 this morning, 22#, 1inch spurs, 9 inch beard. I did not call one time it was a 100% ambush. Had 6 jakes and 4 toms to choose from. I picked this guy at 33 yards. My ambush site was a downed oak tree jutting out in to a CRP field. There were 35 turkeys in the field,,, ima gonna crock pot him for supper
On Wed there were 4 toms in this field. I got one sitting in the downed oak tree center of this pic. Today there are 11 strutting toms in this field. I just minutes ago took this pic from my deck. They are gobbling up a storm.
You got a nice spot right there! Our birds are either super smart or extremely skittish around here. They will gobble in the tree then go silent as soon as they hit the ground! Not to mention they rarely show up in the fields and strut.
It's crazy. They sure like that burned off field once the green shoots came up. Now there are 12 strutting toms in shotgun range of my oak tree ambush. My nephew is gonna sit in that tree Sunday. not a single hen in sight,,
We should prolly come out an help you out before they completely ruin your farm. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Finally got a chance to get out with my son. Our 5 week spring season ends on Friday. Took 5 hours for this guy to leave the hens he was with and work into our hen and Jake decoys and my son's 20 ga.. Son's second Tom. 8 1/2" beard and 1 1/8" spurs. Drumsticks are in the crockpot trying a new recipe to see if they will get tender and edible.
That is a proud youngster. My nephew got a jake in my oak tree blind. He didn’t want to wait for a Tom and jakes are better eating anyway,,
There like chewin on a old sneaker...if you figure out how to soften them up let us know. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
