V10 got a bad rap, plugs blowin out mostly a mechanic fault improperly torqued, now the bolts on the manifold that was a factory screw up and should have been covered by Ford no matter when, imop. $20k for that truck is way over the top , mileage not withstanding. never was a 350 Harley version.
I have a 99-350 v10( first generation) 4x4 ( rear end is 4.77) yep 8mpg in town and it don't care if its empty or loaded to the gills, Got about 120k on mine. the truck in pic worth about 10k at max but more like 6-8k only because milage low. ( only went for about $27k new after a bit of dickering)
Chances are that it is oem plugs yet , they can be buggers to change if left to long. Same for exhaust manifold bolts.
If you have miss firing problems - replace all the coils as a set - the dielectrics in the coils break down, doing it piecemeal just gives more headaches. plugs should be replaced by 80 k, electrode wear puts a higher load on the coils. hence the problems.

Only advantage the oil burner had was heavy loads long haul over the v10, and even there with oil being at a premium price , the last several years that adv. is negated. in that year there was only a 5bhp diff. between the gassser and the oil burner. Mileage very dependent on rear end gearing. trans were stick or 3sp auto w od. Couple different engagement systems for the 4x4 also.

A good running V-10 (fords version) can be a workhorse indeed. I drove one in a SRW 350 for a few years. But why sort through a pile of them with busted exhaust fasteners and stripped plugs when they all bow to Gen VI 454's and the Vortec 8.1L? Better tranny's available behind the 8.1 too. ;).

Yep, those 8.1 gm's were far from perfect themselves. I'd rather have the 6.8 v10 ford. The wrapper is one additional bonus as gm's have rarely been good to me, family, or friends.
