Right where I want to be.
Just picked up enough Jonsered branded stuff to do 2 gallons. Looked at the bottle and it's FD.
Guess I got the good stuff, since it also says it's synthetic with fuel stabilizer.
    I had no idea.

    Yea
I take my glasses with me now & read the labels .
Found out most all 2 cycle oils have fuel stabilizers.

Would be nice to know who makes the oils for the various Brands.
My guess is a few manufacturers make/sell it for/to many brands.
Maybe different color dye for different customers.
Probably same for the bar oil too.

I think the stihl was castrol in their bottle. They changed the color of the HP ultra now so I don't know if they still use the same or not. I prefer synthetic mixed at 32:1 and any one running husky pro saws I recommend to run at least 40:1 in them. They seem to need more oil to stay lubricated than a stihl. Seen a few blue cranks and toasted big end bearings at 50:1 when I've rebuilt them.

I've seen more bottom-end issues with Husky over Stihl in general. (NOT BASHING them but that's just my experience thus far) I wonder if the universal 50:1 recommendation has anything to do with it?

Ok, a question? The manuals state a 50:1 ratio on "my stihl", I have my old 021 and I have never changed the mixture, it still runs fine and not an ounce of problem. Now the saw isn't running 8 straight hours either, why change the mixture if thats what the manufacturer recommends?

The mix ratio is determined by the oil rather than the engine. Engine manufacturers make their recommendations based upon the oils available at the time. Just as you wouldn't mix 30wt at 16:1 for a vintage saw anymore, even tho that is what the manual recommends, it's no longer the best performing mix available.

50:1 is more to please the epa than it is to preserve saw life. The husky bottom ends do seem to benefit from more oil. I run 32:1 now in everything since it's an easy 4oz to a gallon. Stihls tend to spin crank bearings in the case when the bottom end goes more than the huskies just losing crank bearings.

Ok, Great stuff!, so at 2.6 oz per gal give's me 50:1. "With out starting a fued" if I went to 3oz of oil per gal, would you feel that would be an adaquate mixture in your opinions, That's right about 42:1 It would make life easier on mixing!

3oz is better than 2.6. That's not a bad ratio either.

Alright, we've heard from the 32,40,42,50 to one crowd. Anyone going to argue that 80 or 100:1 Amsoil is fine?

Well might as well lock this thread and make it a sticky. Everything has been said.

Put me down for 42:1, easy math and a little extra insurance.

    +1
I mix in 1 gallon jugs.
3 oz is easy to measure.
    48:1, good, safe mix

If you don't rinse the small 2.6 oz bottles, with gas , you don't get 50:1
    sometimes I make a mess , but I rinse.

Slight correction... I agree on 3 oz per gallon. It is easy peazy. Many 2.6 oz. bottles are marked on the other side with 3 oz. The oil that I buy comes in liters which is 33+ oz. that makes a tidy 11 gallons of mixed gas. Also 3 oz./gal. actually comes out to 42.6:1, a safe mix near 40:1. 128 oz./gal. of gas per 3 oz oil = 42.6666666666666.... to 1

I have been running amsoil for years now. New and old saws , never a problem. Specs right on the bottle and no mixing confusion between ratios. Good stuff. Lucas makes a good product as well.

Shane, which oil are you running? Sabre Pro? Dominator? And at what ratio?
