Gotta get a new joke writing team. Kama Sutra designed the MS170 in Mumbai for Stihl. True. Carb cleaner. Fresh mix. Fuel filter. Muffler cleaned. Light choke starting. DEALER.
Its a Ben & Jerry's flavor. They just spelled it wrong! Next Next Karamel Sutra® Core Chocolate & Caramel Ice Creams with Fudge Chips & a Soft Caramel Core
buZZsaw BRAD , I picked up a 170 in April when it was on sale. Had similar issues, freakin’ hated it, almost punted it into the woods. At one point, it flooded every day for 3 days! After clearing the flood on the 3rd day, it has been awesome. Takes 5ish pulls to start, but darn does it eat some wood. I do agree with other people that ambient temps have an effect on whether or not it needs full choke. Also, with full choke on, I use a max of 5 pulls, even if it doesn’t burp. I did add a side access chain tensioner and changed it from .043 to .050 lo pro and stepped down to a 14in bar. So maybe don’t give up hope!
Just wondering if it were a more expensive brand new saw...say a 261 or 362 would you be sending it down the road so quickly?
Thats an excellent question. It was the sixth Stihl saw ive owned that was brand new and the only the has given me any issues. Being a homeowner saw i know its not made for a lot of use which was my thought when i bought it in April. Fast forward to August...Isaias hit then we had a tornado in the area three weeks later. Saw got more use and when working okay it handed it well for the most part. I did/do like it. Nice and light. Perfect for working tangled messes i encountered. I really enjoy cutting wood and want something reliable. A 193/194 rear handle is the same weight and just over double the price so that will be my upgrade. My 194 top handle has filled the 170's void perfectly. To answer your question ...if a 261 or 362 no, it'd be at the dealer (as will this one)
