This could still be done with smaller/cheaper lumber than 2x10s, if spans will allow. Just something to consider.

My thoughts and prayers to your wife.

My wife had a scheduled total knee and hip replacement on her right leg. She's very young to have this done, but the surgery went well yesterday. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

Insulation done properly is the BEST investment a home owner can make in climates where cold is a serious factor. Get advice from a qualified builder and go from there. Cannot picture the whole house layout so will decline to comment on how to best heat it or what options to consider. We always have choices and options in spite of what some would have you believe. Good Luck! Maybe consider using a large king sized sleeping bag opened up as a comforter in the mean time.

I agree which is why I tried to bring back to a temporary insulation. I also have seen too many people pay lots of money for upgrades to a house and end up losing house. It is also easy to say do it right first time saves money, but life happens sometimes, you have to make it work til you can afford to fix it right.. good luck

Yes, life happens and we must persevere against all odds. If it were me I'd likely use my Trek Grizzly sleeping bag as a comforter. I've slept out in it while on winter camping fishing trips in a tent and been just fine until it was time to rise and shine ... then ... O' O' boy. Let's get the coffee and porridge on quick. It's a bit heavy but cozy warm! truth be told though, any decent bag will work at 58 degrees.

Sorry for the long hiatus. The wife had her surgery and indoor softball started. With the wife on the couch unable to do anything, I am mister mom, plus all of my jobs.

I have a job interview on Wednesday. If all goes well, I'll be back to work shortly. Should that happen, I'll just leave the roof alone until the spring when I can get someone in to replace it. Once replaced, I'll either make time to insulate myself, or hire someone. It's a small job. Not sure many would even be willing to consider it.

If the job interview does not go well, I'll put some tarps on the roof to get me through winter. Plus insulating the ceiling.
